I turned my computer on this morning and opened up my Google Reader to this post by my blogging friend from Ukraine, Zee. Please take a moment to read her post. I made a comment on her blog and then started my “day.” While doing some reading I came across this quote that I shared with Zee:
To wish you were someone else is to waste the person you are. Anonymous
Later on in the morning I read this post by Tom over at “Affirmations of God.” Again, I commented on his post. I had mentioned to Zee that after I saw that quote I smelled a post coming and hadn’t really planned on doing it so early. But after reading Tom’s post I thought it was a “sign.”
So…here are a few short thoughts on my mind. I think that Zee makes a good point about being yourself. Honestly, I spent too many years trying to be someone else. I tried to copy my preaching style like some of the “Big Dogs” but all I became was a cheap imitation. God didn’t want me to copy anyone. He wanted me to be a Moses (see Tom’s blog). He wanted to speak through me, not me be a channel for Chuck, Charles or John or anyone else. To tell you the truth it was so nice to finally be ME! I also spent way too much time trying to please everyone but the ONE who matters. I about ran myself ragged trying to be everything to everyone. It was liberating when I realized again that I had to please only ONE. It is true that sometimes hard decisions have to be made and sometimes things just don’t get done on the spur-of-the-moment-fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants requests, but hey, that’s the way things go.
I am sure you have heard this if not once then a thousand times: God only made one YOU. What good is it if you go around pretending to be someone else? So…let me ask you: who are you? Are you being true to whom God made you to be or are you trying to be a copy of the latest “hit”? I would like to hear some of your thoughts if you get a moment.
