Appreciation

Sunday, October 5th, 2014

I know most of you attend church and I am not doubting you honor your pastor in different ways. A word of encouragement. A note to thank him for a kindness. Maybe an occasional gift card to Amazon or a restaurant. I’m sure they are all appreciated. As a pastor, I know those efforts mean a lot to me. Nothing is too small.

October used to be designated Pastor Appreciation Month (it has been changed to Ministry Appreciation Month). I have been at both ends of the spectrum. One church did something every year. But for the most part it has largely been ignored. I’m okay with that…really. I used to crave recognition but now realize I have to please only ONE. But in all honesty, there are some who are languishing. They never hear a good word. They hardly ever receive any note of appreciation. I feel for them because I know where they are.

I cannot begin to tell you how extremely blessed I feel being here. I work alongside some fantastic people. I have a good group of elders to work with-who trust me, love me, look to me and work alongside me.

But many are not so fortunate. How long has it been since you let your pastor know how much you appreciate his work, his study, his preparation, his love, his shepherding? NOW IS A GOOD TIME. I thought this was a pretty good article. And while you are at it, consider this. Very few know this side of the equation. I hope you might take the time to read them both.

Will you take just a few minutes to let your pastor know how much you appreciate him?
