Does anybody really know what time it is?
Oops wrong one. See…if you don’t ask the right questions you can’t possibly get the right answers. Sunday (yesterday) I finished by asking some serious questions. I preached about Meekness (Gentleness in some translations although that would be wrong). My second part of the outline was Proof of Gentleness.
Example #1: God. I used Isaiah 40: 10a,25-26 as my backdrop. After explaining the meaning of the whole chapter, I led them to verse 11 where it describes God as a shepherd caring for his sheep by carrying them close to his chest.
Example #2: Jesus. I used 2 Cor.10:1 and Matthew 11:28-30 where Jesus describes Himself as meek and humble of heart.
Example #3: Treating others with gentleness. It is here I asked 3 questions-questions I think are good for all of us to hear and answer.
- Do people find me a safe place? Or am I so uptight and fiery they try to avoid being with me?
- How do I present myself to others? Is my speech blunt or is it done with sensitivity and respect? Do I show consideration to all?
- Do I degrade, belittle, or gossip about others? When people are hurt, they don’t need shot at. The old saying is way too true: “The church is only army which shoots its own wounded.”
These questions should not be asked just concerning meekness, but rather at all times. How did you do?
