Negativity

Wednesday, November 11th, 2015

First a quote:

To define who you are, you must define who you aren’t.  Unique by Phil Cooke-p.74

Now an observation which may get me tarred and feathered:

I am tired of followers of Christ being so negative that we are being known more for what we are against than what we are for. As Phil states in his book (previously mentioned): “We will become known as ‘the people who are against everything.'”

Case in point: (this is my observation and granted I don’t know nor care to really know the whole story) the current flap over Starbucks coffee mugs.

May I be blunt? Who gives a flyin’ rip what color coffee mugs are? I don’t care if they are purple, black, green, chartreuse, pink. or plain white. ‘Course that is sort of unfair of me since I don’t drink Starbucks. Oops, I don’t even drink coffee. 🙂 But honestly, what difference does it make if a company wants to make red coffee mugs? Chipotle, my favorite place to eat, has white cups with stories on it and often have their “animal/food policy printed on it. Jo & I even have coffee cups with Santa Claus on it. (Please don’t boycott my blog!) Funny thing…neither one of us drinks that nasty stuff.

Oh…but followers of Christ have to make their voice known for being against Starbucks. Seriously? It really matters? A soul is lost and spending eternity without Jesus all because of a red coffee mug? Seems like shades of Westboro going on.

Anyway, let’s stop all the negativity. We have a positive message of God’s love for man, demonstrated by Jesus coming as a baby, living as a man, dying on a cross and raising again. I’d much rather spend my time talking and promoting that than some fight over some stupid coffee mug.

Alright…your time to weigh in.

Meeting-ed

Wednesday, November 11th, 2015

Did you ever find yourself meeting-ed to death?

I have been sort of feeling that way lately. Seems like every time I turn around it is time for another meeting. Not that I don’t enjoy most of them. I do. But sheesh!

Jo has been gone this week to Nashville, TN for a conference with a couple other ladies (our youth pastor’s wife and the lady who leads our women’s ministry) and usually when she is gone I get a lot done-in the office and at home. But the first two days of this week have been filled with…you guessed it…meetings.

Staff meeting (I enjoy them)

Meeting the staff and helping out an older couple from the church with outdoor household maintenance. (You don’t want me to pretend I know what I’m doing indoors). Oh…I enjoyed this one.

A follow-up to our Day of Service with an evaluation meeting. (Very positive meeting)

A meeting with some moving around of things at home while Jo is gone. (Shhh, it’s a surprise!) 🙂

A three hour Chamber of Commerce meeting (Fun but sort of a bummer when so many could not be there).

An hour drive to a Hilltop Camp for its annual meeting, then an hour drive home. (Translated: late night).

I’m a little behind the 8-ball going into this morning. Hence, my later-than-normal post.  I have a brief reprieve today until I travel to another city tomorrow for calling hours and then perform a funeral on Friday. I’m going to take advantage of the reprieve…by finishing watching a documentary on Titanic and Monday night’s furniture moving.

I realize meetings are important. No organization can go without the essential ones. My life is no different. I have another meeting I try to keep and not allow junk to get in the way: my meeting in the morning with God. Yesterday was good; today not so. Edgy. Harried. Agitated (are pastors allowed to be?). Achy. When I should most want/need to meet I found a not-so-hot attitude to do so. Maybe that is why this verse stuck with me: “Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.” (Pr.11:25)

No mattered how much I don’t feel like meeting Him…I need to. What about you?
