Friday Ramblings

Written by cycleguy on October 31st, 2008

Before I go anywhere else with this post I would like to ask you to go to “Move That Mountain! Update” and read the response from Mike & Raenel, Kaitlyn’s parents, for the latest update on her tests.

Normally I write a post for Friday on Thursday but today is a little different since I find myself at the office preparing for a funeral that is out of town. I am going to ramble a little on this post I think. It has been a doozy of a week. It started last Friday actually and has been one of the busiest (translated: driving-wise) since I came to Spencer. I am not complaining. That is what a pastor does…he cares about his people and when situations arise, he responds. This whole merry-go-round started last Friday with one of the teens having surgery last Friday in Indy. It continued with another trip to Indy on Wednesday, a trip to the Terre Haute Hospital yesterday (1 hour away) and then today’s excursion. I sure am glad gas is now at $2.18/gallon! I regret none of it except when I hear my bike’s sad voice at night crying because I didn’t spend time with it like I normally do. Honest! I hear it weeping for lack of attention. Instead of hearing, “Feed me. Feed me” I hear “Ride me. Ride me.” Now you know…that just ain’t fair! Hitting me when I am down and tired. You would think that something you have spent so much time with would be patient and understanding. The best scenario I can give it is “maybe tomorrow.” And that is my sincere hope…maybe Todd (my riding buddy) will call/email today and say, “Hey Bill! Want to ride?” After a little arm-twisting I will acquiesce, suck it up and say, “Sure.” Besides, it is supposed to be near 70 tomorrow. :)

Read some great and thought-provoking posts this past week. If you are a little politically motivated, especially about the buyout/bailout then check this one out. If you want a “feel good” story about people today doing random acts of kindness then you will like this one. For a unique medical twist that is funny you will need to check out my buddy, Steve’s post here. The two posts here on “Certitude” and “Maybe” have been excellent. You really need to go here and read the last two posts on “Yahtzee and Heretics” and a Quick Hit with a quote from A.W.Tozer. Well done Tony! If you are into church leadership and the church’s need to change then you won’t want to miss the whole series of posts that starts with this one and then this one, switches gears a little with this one then comes back with this one. The “Bold Post of the Week” award goes to this one and the this one, both from the same blogger. No question where she stands. And one more: check this one out for a thought-provoking post on Jesus and temptation and self-indulgence.

Funny…I got up a little later than normal today…I allowed myself to sleep until about 4:30 when I woke up before the alarm. I usually get up at 3:15 but not on my day off! As I laid in bed (get more achy as it went on) stuff started going through my head. I started writing a post…but not this one. Reckon I will save that for another day (but I better write that thought down or I will forget). When that happens I just figure God had some other purpose in mind. I am okay with that. I have learned and continue learning that God is God and He can do whatever and whenever He wants. What He wants from me is submission to His perfect will and plan. It is much easier to do it on things like writing a blog. I mean, what is the challenge in that!! It is the tougher issues and challenges of life that I have a tad more difficulty. Okay so it is more than a “tad more.” My way vs. His way. My mess-up vs. His rocky-but-ending-well way. As always, I would do well to be more obedient to His plan. But that is another blog, another time. :)

I welcome your comments on my ramblings (except if they are about my schizophrenic mind). Since I have that funeral out of town I won’t be able to reply or post your comments until later this afternoon (I know you will wait with baited breath for that). So please be patient and don’t spam my blog! ;) And please don’t feel “left out” if you didn’t receive some link love this week. Just enjoy reading other peoples’ thoughts. Comment on their blog and if you want, comment here. Have a great weekend just in case I don’t post a blog. Above all…have an awesome time with Jesus with weekend!

May I suggest a bicycle helmet with a light on it for the sake of your lonely bike??? I know if cars sit for too long the brakes tend to lock up…be sure to do a safety check before tomorrow!

  5. cycleguy says:

Thanks Steve. You may not thank me after my next post. :)

  6. cycleguy says:

weehours: always wear a helmet. When not riding I hang it on the handlebars. That should be enough to tell it i will be back. See next post.

The people above me are mere posers ;)

    Check this out.

I <3 You… (My understanding is that the less than sign before the number three makes a sideways heart).

I found your post to be clearly muddled…. just kidding – I enjoyed it. A snapshot of your day.

God bless you while you are about!

    Bill,

Been praying and will continue to pray for those involved with the funeral. (I read far more than able to comment..)

I like your ramblings.. Sometimes rambling is good for us. Helps clear the cobwebs! lol

Camey: thanks for the prayers. It seemed to go well. The lady was a Christ follower but not sure about anyone else but the folks from the church here. She lived in Tenn and was buried about an hour away.

    Thanks for kind words.

You are welcome Jim. A little later I wished I had linked to those specifically but was too late.
