Refreshed

Have you ever needed refreshed?

We have had a long winter according to some. Seems like the ones I experienced during my childhood. Cold days. Lots of snow. Cold nights. Lots of snow. Months of cold days. Lots of snow. Months of cold nights. Lots of snow. Sense a pattern?

We finally got our break. Last week we saw a taste of it. This past weekend we saw sunshine. The past two days (Monday & Tuesday) we saw 60 degree weather. Oh mama did it feel good! I visited in the home Tuesday with someone who struggles with depression during the long, cold winters. This one was especially hard on him because of other issues as well. He was feeling perky today. I know the abundant sunshine was one of reasons for that. My visit was the other. I kid on the latter. 🙂 He is feeling refreshed.

I am feeling refreshed. This has been the first winter I can remember since I starting cycling seriously in which I was not able to get out and ride. Granted I am getting older so the cold does affect me more than it used to. But since my knee surgery in November, I have not been out on my bike.

UNTIL TODAY!

Yes! The 70 degree temps were more than I could stand. And even though they are calling for high winds and rain tonight turning to snow (less than an inch), I just had to get out. I rode for 13 miles, which is okay for the first time out. No sense in getting sore knees or tendinitis by riding too much too quickly. Sure beats riding inside on the trainer. Today was like a breath of fresh air.

Other things make us feel refreshed. A nice shower after a hot & sticky day outside or workout. A super special meal which appeals to our empty stomach. A “Welcome Home Daddy!” when we have been gone. A nice bowl of ice cream (that always does the trick, for me).  😉

Jesus once told the Samaritan woman He would give her water which would leave her never thirsty again, water that will become a spring of water welling up to eternal life. He was promising her real and lasting refreshment.

I’ll take Him up on His offer. How about you? What makes you feel refreshed?

Now…all I have to do is be able to walk tomorrow.

Lately what has helped me feel refreshed are the words of encouragement from others.

I came home from my morning bible study refreshed from reading God’s word. Just listened to the other women tell how God has strengthen them through their trials will stay with me for a while. Then to top this off the pastor wife ask me to speak at the October retreat, three sessions. I am new to this this group of women so I thought what a risk she was taking in asking me. They have not even heard my testimony yet. What was refreshing was God had told me several nights ago to get ready, He was going to use me in this area again. He has refreshed my soul…good post my brother.

Glad you enjoyed the weather. Today we had 75 deg and I opened up the patio doors until about
8:30 p.m. when the temps started to drop a bit. Tomorrow will have a similar high but rain is called for. I will still take it.

I would take that as well. I look forward to those days on a regular basis.

we had about 70ish here in Knoxville and then today the temps are supposed to start at 60 and drop throughout the day and by the evening commute I think it’s supposed to be in the 30’s or low 40’s with the possibility of snow overnight (light with no accumulation). Tomorrow it’s supposed to be in the 40’s quite a change 🙁

I rarely get to sleep in. I long for a day to sleep in and then lounge in bed. What keeps me going though…Christ. You said, He is the living water!

I definitely know the feeling. This winter has been easier on me because (1) it wasn’t really cold and (2) I had someone to cheer me up all the time (even though he did get to suffer from my weather moodiness every once in a while).

This last week, we had weather in mid-50s, so it’s perfect. Went on a few bike rides around the neighborhood – and I even tried to ride Sam’s fixed-gear bike… It was quite a challenge to overcome the instinctive habits of braking… But thankfully, we did the experiment late at night at a mall parking lot.

Otherwise, it is refreshing to wake up in the morning, read the news, and sigh with relief that no one died in attacks and that there’s no war (yet, anyway). It’s a new kind of feeling, and it’s weird. But it is still refreshing and allows to enjoy the sunshine to the fullest.

You guys had a relatively mild winter I believe. And you might #2 be speaking of? Oh, yeah, Sam. 😛 I look forward to the day you two become one. That will be so cool. I’m not sure I could ride a fixed gear bike anymore. We keep praying for no war.

Oh Mama, I need to feel refreshed more often. For me it’s not depression that keeps my feeling blah, but exhaustion and stress. I could use a refreshing break. Spring break is coming soon.

  7. Eileen says:

I’m with you, Bill. Sunlight and warm temps have been so refreshing!! I am ready for Spring to come and stay awhile.

Well, since I’m a bit north of you, we saw 50 degrees yesterday, and I actually ditched my coat for the afternoon. Now today, my kids are home from school because of a snow storm and high winds. Going to get negative temperatures tonight, so that’s over a 50 degree difference in 24 hours. Ready for refreshment for sure. So thankful I can get that in ways other than through weather, many of which were already mentioned.

Oh wow that is a drop! Ours dropped to the 30s right now. Supposed to climb to the 40s tomorrow. And 60 on Friday. Woohoo!

I’d struggle without sunshine too. No pointing fingers here. As simple as it sounds, I’ll be looking to no pain in my shoulder for my refreshment. Little things like that we take for granted. Im a month out and it is real pain in the shoulder!

With the pace of the last two years working full-time and running a nonprofit on the side, I have been diligent as of late to find some off network time – a couple of hours without twitter, facebook, phone calls, text messaging, email, etc. We have visited Gibbs Gardens which is just a few minutes from our house with lots of walking trails and terrible cell phone coverage 🙂 It provides gorgeous scenery, birds, fish, flowers, trees, peace, and quiet. I can actually feel my pulse rate slow down and a spirit of calm peace comes over me everytime I walk into the gardens there. Very refreshing 🙂

A week’s trip to the beach or a weekend up the AT approach trail at the Len Foote Hike Inn work as well for me.

    -Peace

It is so important to get that time away. With your upcoming unemployment that will be important to calm your soul. Already told you I am praying for you.

I know what you mean about this winter. The winters where I live a usually pretty mild over all. This winter has reminded me of the ones I lived through growing up in Chicago. I seriously need for the nice weather to show up and stay for a while. Hope you’re doing well.
