Immeasurable

Written by cycleguy on April 10th, 2014

When my girls were growing up we used to do a little thing from time to time.

“I love you.”

“I love you gobs.”

“I love you gobs and oodles.”

“I love you gobs and oodles and mucho.”

“I love you gobs and oodles, mucho and immensely.”

That is about where my use of adjectives ended.  🙂

It was a fun game. Truth is: I love my girls so much no words could describe how I really feel. I have always told them they could never do anything to stop my love for them. I meant it then; I mean it now.  N-O-T-H-I-N-G they could do could every stop my love for them. They now live out of our home, in other parts of the country. One in Knoxville; the other in Powell, OH. I love them both equally, although each is my favorite. 🙂

I sense God’s love being the same way. Nothing I do could ever stop Him from loving me. N-O-T-H-I-N-G.  Do I always do what is right? Guess again. But fortunately, His love for me is NOT based on what I do or don’t do. (Don’t let anyone tell you any different). His love for me is based on Who He is. His love is

IMMEASURABLE

Hold that in your heart today. Live with that truth this weekend. Have a great weekend.

My daughter is 16 and I still get misty-eyed when I drop her off for school and she walks off. Even when she doesn’t turn around and wave goodbye, I can still be found waving away like I did when she was still in grade school.

  2. It’s awesome to think that His love for us is greater than any love we have for anyone. Wow!!!

Unconditional love is rare, we are blessed God loves us in this way and shows us how to love in this way. It also is tough because sometimes you feel that there are conditions when there are not. In the case of my mother, I know she did love me unconditionally, but most of the time, it seemed as if there were conditions. I think there were misplaced hopes on her part for a better life for me. Misplaced on earthly things. Interesting , that I can see that now but didn’t see it then. My grandparents are who I felt blessed with their unconditional love which spurned me on to better things. I know they had a tough time as parents. The unconditional love seems to emerge and be better perceived as we turn into grandparents, without an agenda in mind for them!

Sometimes, as you know, it is hard to find unconditional love in parents. I suspect my girls may find times when i wasn’t very unconditional with them. I don’t know. I know my grandparents, especially my grandfather, showed unconditional love to me.

Great post and reminder, Bill. Thanks, brother.

I don’t think we could add enough adverbs to God’s love to accurately describe it. Probably the best description is to look at the action his love took when God’s Son Jesus hung on the cross for our sins.
