Surprise!

Written by cycleguy on April 23rd, 2014

Most of us like surprises. They may give us a heart attack from time to time, but most surprises are good.

“Guess what honey? Surprise!” (First one was Alpha. Second one was Omega. Third one is Upsilon…sounds like Oopsilon).

“Surprise! Happy Birthday!!” (as we pick our heart up off the floor).

“Hi daddy. I made you a surprise. Here. Take a bite.” (Gulp)

There are also bad surprises. Yeah…not so good.

Then there are those kind which come from God. Let me explain: Monday I received a text from my wife to call someone at my first opportunity. I did.

“(Realtor) Hey Bill. Have you ever thought about selling your home?”

“Actually, no it hasn’t been on the radar really. Why?”

“I know someone who wants to buy it. They actually want all three properties. (My note: the two on either side…to put it mildly…pull my house value down.) It is all contingent on your house though.”

Talk about surprised! I met with him Tuesday, saw the comparisons, and made an offer today (Wednesday).

What is surprising about all this is I have been praying about lessening our debt, especially my truck. We owe only on my truck and the house. We have no credit card debt. Jo is retiring on May 3rd so it weighs on me, especially the truck.

Could this be God’s answer? We will have to find a place to live and there are not a lot of places in our town. But then again, if God can surprise me with this, He can surprise me with a place.

So…I am blown away by God’s surprise. Now I wait…and that is a whole ‘nother subject as they say. 🙂 I would appreciate any prayers you may want to throw up on my behalf.

Meanwhile, have you ever been surprised by God?

Plus, with moving, you have a lot of topics to blog about. I suspect that is your main reason for considering a move.

Especially this last year! We were recently talking about that – how God has been providing us with more than we need… When I changed work places, I found out I had unused vacation days that provided a good sum of money… Then when I switched to the new job, turned out I will be paid more… and then there was an additional project for which I was to be paid… and then, Sam unexpectedly got a pretty big bonus at work… It was a surprise after a surprise. Even though at times, we wondered what are we going to do, He kept providing. AMAZING!

You sure have been the recipient of some great surprises haven’t you? The biggest will be coming up in just over a week. 🙂

    Sounds like an adventure!

Yep. round 1 is done. Now the counter offers begin. Why couldn’t he had just accepted mine in the first place? 🙂

Wow. How cool is that? Praying for you, Bill. Our Father never fails us, that’s for sure.

I too have been surprised by the mercy and grace of God so many times I could write a book!

  5. I have definitely been surprised by God and how He does things. Sometimes it’s ways I like and understand and sometimes it’s very uncomfortable! But I have seen His faithfulness over and over and He does always turn what I see as negative into good. Excited for you, Bill! And praying with you–His wisdom, grace, and timing in Jesus’ name.

I definitely need those last three qualities Jason. Although God surprises me a lot, I am sort of glad it is not always the same way. I like variety.

    Praise God!
He does above what we can imagine and knows exactly what we need when we need it.
Can’t wait to hear about the new home He provides.

As for God surprising me, I was surprised by all the love and support I got from my launch team for my book! I wasn’t expecting such great feedback. It was humbling and awesome experience.

God surprises me ALL THE TIME. Never get used to it, but that’s part of the joy in it too. Waiting is often a requirement that follows surprises, I’ve noticed. Often, we just need to let God finish the surprise because it’s often not just the initial event. There’s so much more He wants to do if we just wait.

  8. God will usually take a route that we aren’t expecting. You got an offer on your house. Robshep got a free church given to him. Crazy God Stuff.
Sorry I’m about 12 hours late. I’m traveling for work and my whole world is turned upside down.

Sounds like a good deal. 🙂

I’ve been surprized by God recently in an unexpected way, and the surprizes kept coming.

One is rather interesting and most welcomed, the others not so welcomed.

But God is good all the time! 🙂

How do you decide whether God or the Devil is surprising you.

Fair and legitimate question Jeff. Several things run through my mind. One, would it violate any biblical principles? For example, a beautiful woman propositioning me might be a surprise but it is pretty obvious it is not from God. Two, I think it needs to be weighed. In our case, I can’t shut out the practical. As time has moved on the gains are not that great to displace us. He debunked the market analysis of the agent and low-balled me. However, that is neither God nor Satan with the surprise. If I was asked to compromise my integrity to make this deal happen (money under the table or something like that) then I would say Satan was the source of that. Does that make sense? (I sure do wish I had your business savvy to figure this out)

  11. Jeff says:

No. I don’t think the Bible discussed selling your house. I highly doubt your integrity will be compromised. On the other hand, a beautiful woman propositioning (whatever that means)might be good for someone else.

God never ceases to amaze me. He knows what weighs on our hearts. I’ll be praying about this. 🙂
