LIFE

Written by cycleguy on July 11th, 2014

It was a long day on Thursday. I don’t regret it. It was for a cause I truly believe in.

I am on the board of the New Beginnings Pregnancy Resource Center. It used to be the NB Crisis Pregnancy Center but the feeling among the board members (before I arrived and with whom I agree) was not all pregnancies were a crisis. Hence the name change. With the Owen County Fair happening this week, we decided to have a booth at the fair. I volunteered (and Jo says I volunteered her also, but she really wanted to spend the time with me) to work Thursday evening from 5-10:00. It was a long but fulfilling evening. I saw a ton of people I knew and met some new ones. Jo looked at me once and said, “I don’t know how you do it all the time. I need my alone time.”  I told her I get mine on the bike. 🙂

But she is right. God has gifted me as an extreme extrovert. I love being around people. Talking. Laughing. Sometimes crying. And what made it even better last night was that it was something I was passionate about.

I am all about life. I believe in what New Beginnings is all about. I love being able to celebrate life. I loved being able to tell folks who asked what NB does for new moms/dads. For parents of these new or soon-to-be new parents. I was excited to talk about NB expanding to a new facility which will allow expanded service, while keeping the old place for a Baby Boutique where clothing, layettes, diapers, etc will be available.

You see…I think it is one thing to say or preach for/against something. It is another to make sure there is an alternative. NB is FOR life. We need to make sure we do that which supports it.

Last night was tiring to this old man. But it was also very fulfilling. I’ll take that any day.

What do you do to support life?  Do you support your local “life organization?”

Hi Bill! What wonderful work you do to support life! And yes, my family is very involved in respect life issues. We support a local counseling office for pregnant women, and I was a foster parent, and am an adoptive parent.

All life is such a gift. May we always respect the life God gives, and work to support and assist where we can. Like you!
    Blessings,
    Ceil

I believe in sensible population controls to keep humanity’s exponential growth in check so that we don’t overtax our planet’s finite resources. I think we have likely gone beyond that point already. Yet population control discussions are always seen as a limitation of our freedom even as we use up our planet without any regard toward the future.

Yes, I personally am looking to be more involved in a ministry called, Sarah House. It a place for pregnant women to stay till they have their babies, some are kept, some are adopted out. A lady from our church runs the house, I actually think it is her house. All I done so far is give some money but am looking into other ways I could help. Good reminder Bill.

What a wonderful way to serve the needs of the community by working at the NB Booth at the fair. We still financially support the CPC in Terre Haute, participated in the Walk For Life with Carol one year. I love that we have freedom to allow these organizations services to people in need.

Good for you, Bill. It lifts the soul to help and give to those in need and share the information with the rest of the world.

I support ours through our church, but I don’t press flesh like you, I’m with Jo, I need my selfi- I mean my alone time…

I’ll be the curmudgeon here, Bill – I support all life. That means organ donor as well as opposition to the death penalty, not just support of the local church’s efforts to help young women keep their baby (or to give it up for adoption). I work with addicts and alcoholics who want to turn their lives around – online as well as offline – and volunteer at local missions.

I like the honesty of Floyd’s and Larry’s answers, and I am in complete agreement with Daniel’s.

  8. Debbie says:

Thank you, Pastor Bill, for showing us how to live what we say and believe, to support life! God bless you!

  9. Pam says:

We think so much alike, Bill, although I am more like Jo (alone time energizes me) and my husband, Dick is more like you–energized by people. We have recently moved and I have yet to get involved in a life organization in our new area, but thank you for the huge nudge in the right direction!
