This past weekend was a doozy! In all my years of blogging I don’t think I ever intentionally (or even unintentionally) missed a Sunday/Monday post. Until today.

It all started with Jo & (our oldest daughter) Tami taking off on Thursday morning for Ohio to watch our grandson/nephew play baseball. Friday was packed full, ending up with me cutting my yard at dusk, doing double time so I wouldn’t run out of gas before I was finished. 🙂

Saturday, I decided to ride because the weatherman said it would not rain until about 3:00. Wrong again! At 12:45 here is comes. Fortunately, I was smart enough to turn left right into the church parking lot and get underneath the alcove entrance before the deluge hit. I have to get a job as a weatherman. I’ve been rained on more this year than the last 5 combined.

Sunday I preached both services, we honored our graduates, and then a brother (high school) and sister (college) duo had their grad party.

Normal stuff you say. Until you hear how I challenged myself with a ton of extra sermon work. As I made my cheat sheets in Bible sermon notes and practiced Sunday morning, I realized I was cheating the people out of knowing more of the Biblical doctrine of Adoption. So I made the decision AND ANNOUNCED that I would put aside the already-prepared sermon for this coming Sunday and do one strictly on Adoption. I did my Bible reading Sunday night at home, so when I got the office after some prayer I could get right on the sermon. At 5:15 I was already at it and finished at 8:30. Sometimes things just click. Sometimes the inspiration just flows. Sometimes the Holy Spirit knows just what is needed at that time.

I learned some good things about Adoption. I’d like to share some of them with you this week (I know you are waiting with baited breath).

How was your weekend and how is your week shaping up?

  1. Yep, sometimes we’ve just gotta miss a blog post. Or 2. Or a month’s worth. Whatever.

We have no choice. And we’re wise to hear His call to lay it down, even for just a bit.

Peace and rest to you, friend.

Looking forward Bill to reading your insights on adoption. I have had an interesting week due to a blogging issue. Wrote about it on my post…I know you will have some words of wisdom for me.

  3. Jon Stolpe says:

My weekend was equally packed. Generally, it was good stuff (besides a bit of tough news from a friend).

This wee is shaping up to be busy as well!

  4. Lisa notes says:

Yes, I love when the Spirit works that way. And I love when pastors are listening to His voice. You’re one of those kinds. Yay! 🙂

  5. Jeff says:

Nice try Dude. We are cutting your pay back due to missing a Monday Blog. We expect more from our Blog leader.
Let me share first on adoption. I have two of the most wonderful nieces and nephews because of adoption. They are as much family as anyone that arrived a little bit differently. To know my sister is to know love. And my Bro-in- law passed a very high bar to have me approve. He is a great guy.
They have created a very satisfying life for themselves and all the grandkids etc.
They are, like you all, very much lovers of Jesus. Which helps me understand “Lovers of Jesus” better than I otherwise would. I don’t care what the Bible says about adoption. I know what I think. It’s a win, win, win, win, for all the players and all the spectators.

Your “testimony” about your sister and b-i-l is absolutely the highlight for me Jeff. To know and hear of adoption in action is “icing on the cake.” Thanks for sharing that. I agree with the win, win, win.

  6. Daniel says:

I love to hear that you don’t just fall into a rote formula. You listen. You pray. You react to his subtle promptings.

  7. I wish Matt was still in the bogging world. His adoption of four of his children would add a lot.

  8. I have ditched my “prepared” sermon 3 weeks in a row…amazing how the Father doesn’t need MY notes! 😉

  9. Very much looking forward to your posts, Bill. Blessings!

  10. Talking about rain, I’m in the rain-soaked Texas this week. It is unbelievable driving around seeing everything underwater and all the roads closed. They got hit pretty hard. Scares me to think about what’s to come with all the crazy weather happening around us, but God is in control and we are under His protection.

I feel for the folks in Texas. We had a major flood here back in ’08 that destroyed a bunch of property and closed off roads as well.

  11. Ceil says:

Hi Bill! My breath is properly bated!
I think June is just a crazy month. Lots of graduations, moving on to new things, weddings, baptisms…the list goes on and on for you personally and as a pastor. Life is good!

I was in Indianapolis this past weekend, the weather was a bit ominous. Fortunately, where I was only got rain, but a tornado touched down just west of town. I’m glad you were safe!!
    Blessings,
    Ceil

Hopefully you won’t be disappointed Ceil. As for being in Indy: maybe one of these trips you can make your way down to my neck of the woods and worship with us. 🙂 i would be honored if you did.

We were so blessed this Sunday to be part of seeing seven baptisms in church! There are two lights that they turn on, over the Baptistry when they are about to baptize someone, and every time they turn them on, in my heart, I can imagine Angels rejoicing in heaven. Great day for the Lord !
Hope you have a blessed rest of the week !
