Presence

Written by cycleguy on July 7th, 2015

I wrote in my last post about slowing down.  I did…sort of.

I cheated some. I came to the office early although I did sleep in an extra hour. I got here at 6:00 and had the morning to myself. I got a sermon for 8/2 started, wrote some notes to several people, read some and had a nice relaxing several hours before I spent some time with Jo, Tami and Linda (our church friend whose birthday it was). We took her to lunch. She said she enjoyed it and even shared some of her Coca Cola cake with me. Yeah, I was also bad. 🙁

I came back to the office where I dressed to go riding. I rode 20 miles in 88 degree weather and when I was done got a text from Jo asking me if I planned on going to the fair with her and Tami. Like the good husband and father I am (ahem!) I went.

Our county fair is going on this week. I lived a sheltered life growing up because I had never heard of a county fair until I was at a church where the kids entered animals. That would be back in 2001 when I went to my first hog show. Every year after that I was a spectator at that fair. This year we have several young people who are showing hogs; one showing her pigmy goat (she won!); and several who take the “animal-less” way around- they sew, draw, bake, etc. I love seeing what our kids do! The 4-H program in Owen County is superb and the kids really learn a ton. I am really super proud of them.

We walked around last night (Monday). Tonight I will help man the New Beginnings Pregnancy Resource Center booth (I’m a board member) for about 2 1/2 hours. Thursday night the church will have a booth and I will help out there. I have a new appreciation for all the parents who have kids here with animals and the amount of commitment it takes. I’m tired from staying out and up late just walking around. I can’t imagine what it is like taking care of animals in 80+ degree heat. (Plus rain today).

As for my presence here: like many others in the blogging world, I am finding my summer super busy and time-consuming. More than it has ever been. I will maintain a presence here but maybe not as often. Hopefully, when I do write something it says something.

Been busy this week?

  1. Yes sir. Busy with life, with work, and with family that’s visiting. Keep being intentional about slowing down. I’ll join you with it too. Thanks Bill.

Seems like all of my regulars have slowed for the summer. I will stop by and read when you do post though. Sounds like you have a busy week ahead. Hope you enjoy the mess out of it.

I said the same in my last blog post… then life happened. A lot of it. LOL.. – http://www.domesticgeekgirl.com

You always have something to say about something, Bill. And I mean in a good way!

Summer is always gangbusters for me. I’ve been in three different states in less than a week and just got back in town today. I did manage to get a ride in when I was in CA, but that’s a story for another day. Suffice to say I’m seriously thinking about never setting my backside on a bicycle seat forever!

Blessings to you and yours and a safe and prosperous summer, my friend.

Yes, my summer is busy, as usual. I’m glad we got our vacation in last month, now it’s all work, ministry and remodel!

Hi Bill! I know what you mean, I’ll be going on vacation this weekend and taking a blog break myself. I don’t think you have to worry about content. Just hearing about your day is enough for me!

You are an amazing cyclist! I would need IV’s after riding that long in such heat. Be sure to drink that water my friend!
    Blessings,
    Ceil

i saw you were taking a break Ceil. I think we all need to do that from time to time. I don’t drink just water. I also drink G-2 Gatorade (grape). Water is deficient in giving my muscles the electrolytes they need.

  7. Yes, busy, but it’s a fun kind of busy, Bill. It’s about to get a lot busier when the third grand-girl arrives later this month! Can’t wait!
    Blessings!

Yes. Even though my son is away hiking at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico for two weeks, I am busy. We have a Spanish exchange student at our house for a month which has been fun, but this has also added another dimension of busyness to our household.

Life moves on correct? I have been an empty nester for years and life is still busy. Gets even busier when the grandson comes.
