And What Did You Do?

Written by cycleguy on December 1st, 2008

I-I-I-I s-s-s-urv-v-v-ived the-the-the Thanksgiving weekend without b-b-b-l-l-logging. That stuttering you see is from withdrawals. 🙂 I have to be honest I didn’t do a total blog fast. (Sounds like some health thing doesn’t it?) I didn’t blog but I did read and comment on a few. I chose to allow all my many fans to take a break from reading mine (cough cough) and relax. Some exciting things happened while I was away.

Both Steve and Heidi celebrated anniversaries. Congrats to both of you.

Will-not the actor-Smith unplugged all weekend. He is a better man than I am.

Kevin got excited his Alabama Crimson Tide won 36-0 and stands unbeaten (until next week maybe?).

Camey’s husband, Richard aka “The WalMart Pastor” & “The Lawn Pastor” preached at a church yesterday that may end up as a possible location for him to become their pastor. I told my bride Saturday night that I was impressed that he used his position at WM and as LP to pastor people without a pulpit. I can’t wait to hear how Sunday went.

It could be this guy will break everyone’s idea of “the in-laws” with his comment about resting. However, I can agree with him because my late in-laws were priceless. Hope you got that well-deserved rest J4.

This post is one that reminds all who read it that Thanksgiving is from the heart, no matter what it is.

This man’s post will make you think about a lot of things, one of them being the commercialism that many of us will speak against and struggle against this coming month. His last paragraph reminds me of a scene from Back to the Future when Doc Brown tells Marty that where the mall sat there used to pine trees as far as the eye could see. Will you see miss overlook the stars this Christmas season?

This woman got entirely too excited about winning a contest on another blog. But that is not cannot be my jealousy (can it?) speaking since I never win anything. Are you listening Heidi? (she had a contest to name her soon-to-be-born child). 😉

This family put away some food. WOW! Sorry m’lady there were no leftovers (least not enough for you to take home).

And last, but certainly not least (depending on your perspective I reckon), is my own weekend. I finished up hanging curtains in a newly-painted room. The weather on T-day was a beautiful 50 that allowed me to get in 19 miles on my bicycle. I paid for it since it had been two weeks before the 18 I had ridden the day before (Wednesday). But then we headed over to some folks from the fellowship who had invited my bride and I to share dinner with them. I walked away comfortable until a short while later when it all settled. 🙂 On Friday I had to take my Outlander in for service and told bribed Jo with IHOP. Unfortunately the wait was at least 30 minutes so we ate elsewhere. She forgave me though and I lived to laugh another day. I received a really cool comment on my blog from someone I consider a long-distance mentor. The rest of the weekend was spent enjoying the smiles, laughter and sheer joy of having our grandson and his parents with us. They left yesterday afternoon. The house sure sounded empty without him riding his little bicycle (hot wheels) through the house. I had the privilege of speaking to a relatively good crowd considering it was Thanksgiving weekend. The worship team rocked the house!! We now head into a packed December.

Thanks for listening to my potpourri of information. If I missed yours that was not intentional. I just ran out of time and room. If you want to add any info I missed please feel free to pipe in. I would love to hear from you.

    Sounds like a great holiday!
I’ve been meaning to ask you…didn’t you say, about a hundred years ago, that you were going to put up a picture of yourself? Am I just missing it? 🙂
    Make it a great Monday!

  2. Bill…thanks for the shout out and the wishes for our anniversary.

I, for one, missed your daily insights…even though you said you were not going to blog, I found myself still coming to your site just to see if you changed your mind…

I have no life…can you tell?

Glad you had a great time!

I did get well rested at the in-laws. They are wonderful people and provide a nice atmosphere to get the batteries recharged.

Jim: Glad it was a good visit for you. I enjoyed visiting my in-laws and helping them out when they needed it (painting, washing cars, etc).

  7. Bill…that’s the wonderful thing about scheduling your posts…you just write when you have time, and the computer does the rest!

  8. cycleguy says:

Steve: I know. I did that the two weeks before and just ran out of time this past week. Then I thought, “Ok just take a break.” Glad I was missed. 🙂

    Bill,

Yesterday was beyond wonderful! I thought the morning couldn’t have gone any better… oh, I just had to wait until evening to be proven wrong! The evening blew the top off the morning.

Again we heard how the Spirit was really speaking through my husband. It was evident in the tears, hugs, handshakes, and “When you coming back? We need to hear more from you?”

One young adult male stood there with big tears in his eyes as he hugged me. I asked him if he was okay and he said, “Your husband was speaking directly to me.” I heard that a few others times before we walked out the door.

As we were walking to the car – one lady came up and just started pouring out her life to us.. As I wrapped my arms around her as she was crying, she said, “I knew when I saw your face this morning that you love Jesus. Saw it all over your three sons too. Had already seen in all over your hubby the first time he was here.

As I sat there yesterday morning and then again last night listening to my dear precious man break open the bread of Life – bits and pieces of that dream were as clear as daylight.

Whether or not he ends up becoming their pastor is not necessarily the point.. it is being open to being used however the Spirit guides and directs. And there is nothing like following IT because of God’s love for each of us.

Thank you again for the prayers and please keep them up! As for Craig leaving you a comment – I’m not the slightest bit surprised. You kinda of have that affect on people you know.

I’ll keep ya informed! So glad you got to spend some quality time with your grandson and his parents!! Sorry your bride didn’t get IHOP though. I feel her pain on that one.. 😉

I missed you. LOL about the baby name. Uh well uh hmmm. We sort of already picked a winner, but you can keep trying. I can always change my mind. Glad you’re back. Try Google Reader and then you won’t drive yourself nuts checking blogs. They’ll get bold when the author has posted a new entry.

Camey: I have to admit that this “manly man” had tears in his eyes as he read your post. WOW! As I read that I thought of the reading of the Scripture in the OT and as it was read it brought repentance. Was it during Josiah’s reign when they found the scrolls? It sounds to me like Dick is anointed and I don’t throw that phrase around lightly. It also sounds like the folks are hungry to hear the Word. I can’t wait to hear more!! 🙂

  12. cycleguy says:

Heidi: Glad you missed me. About that baby name: will bribery get me everywhere? I will leave it as is knowing that mine was the best but I will humbly submit to your choice. :0

What is google reader? That is a foreign thought to me.

  13. cycleguy says:

Should have been “humbly submit to your choice” 😉
