I’m going to jump the gun on this!
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY
I know there are some woman who truly hate this day. It reminds them of what is not to be. Or it may remind them of what once was. Or it may remind them of when their mother walked the earth. My mother went to see Jesus in March of 2004. Fortunately, I have been blessed with a wonderful wife who was also a terrific mom.
Abraham Lincoln is reported to have said, “No one is poor who had a godly mother.” I can echo that. Although I did not always agree with my mother, as I grow older I realize who much of an influence she had upon me. Or as Mark Twain said, “As I get older I realize who much smarter my parents have gotten.” There are times I want to call her and say, “Now I know mom.”
This Sunday, called Mother’s Day on the calendar, is a special day. It’s a day of celebration. In reality, it should be every day of the year. This Sunday my sermon will focus on the unique design of a woman. We are all one in Christ. Male/female. Slave/free. Jew/Greek. Obviously different but also one. Men and women are equal in value but the woman is unique in design (besides the obvious).
Hope you have a fantastic Mother’s Day…either celebrating the women who have made a difference in your life or being the one celebrated.

Mother’s Day is a day of mixed emotions for me as I remember the mother I lost many years ago but also celebrate the wonderful mother that my wife is to our children.
I’m with you on that Rodney. I had a good mother and an incredible wife.
I thought the Bible says women are to men as men are to God. That wouldn’t be equal. Did I read something wrong?
The wise of heart will receive commandments, but a babbling fool will come to ruin. Proverbs 10:8
I’ve never received a commandment but I agree with the babbling part. I tend to think those who get their facts from ancient fairy tales and make extraordinary claims with no evidence tend to be the babblers.
Nope, in this context, God sacrificed himself so that we might have eternal life. Likewise I should be willing to lay down my life for my wife.
I’m inclined to agree with these comments, Jeff. Ephesians 5 says I am to love my wife as Christ loved the church. He laid His life down for it. Besides, I have no idea where your thought “from the Bible” comes from.

Thanks for the wishes, Bill! Being a mother is a blessed calling, a privilege. But it isn’t easy! I know I began to appreciate my own mother a lot more when I had kids of my own! Thankfully, we are not alone in the journey! God comes alongside, the perfect heavenly Father, to complete the work!
