Someday

Written by cycleguy on April 9th, 2017

I was sitting in my chiropractor’s office Friday and since I had forgotten to bring something to read (DUH!), I picked up a Men’s Health magazine. I ran across an article about a trainer named Bobby Maximus. (Sort of reminds me of Gladiator.  🙂 )  I give you that, not as a stamp of approval on Maximus, but as a “give credit where credit is due” thing. Anyway, they had some sayings which Maximus is fond of using.  Several of them struck a chord…one I’ve heard before: “Do what’s right, not what’s easy.”

But the one that stayed with me so much I wrote it down and use it now is this:

There are 7 days in a week. ‘Someday’ is not one of them.

It is easy getting into that mode-whether we talk about our physical condition; our exercise program; a relationship we want to cultivate; a goal we want to realize; and especially our relationship with God. I don’t really need to go into detail as to each of these modes, so to speak. We all know how it applies to our physical condition or an exercise program, etc.

I do find it somewhat disconcerting when I consider how I have used the “Someday excuse” when it comes to cultivating my relationship with God. “Someday I will have that Quiet Time.” “Someday I will pray.” “Someday I will learn that verse.” Someday. Someday. Someday. And Someday never gets anything accomplished.

I’ve written about my two bike wrecks. No need to go into them again. If you want to read about it go here. But those two wrecks have taught me some serious lessons…one of them is don’t use “Someday” as an excuse to get things done which need done. Don’t keep putting things off.  For example, Jo & I are in a much better place than we have been for years, largely because of this philosophy.  Talking more. Hugging and snuggling more. Kissing more. I’ll stop there. 🙂 🙂  (I know Tami…TMI)

Don’t keep saying “Someday.”

Hi Bill! I LOVE that saying about ‘someday’. That is so true and ‘someday’ is an often used excuse around here.
I remember reading somewhere that the deeper the valley, the higher the peak, and I think those deep valleys of your accident are lifting you to new peaks of insight. That’s wonderful!
I know your experiences will help me to understand the importance of ‘right now’. My word for the year is ‘now’, and that certainly isn’t ‘someday’!
    Blessings,
    Ceil

I also liked that saying Ceil. Glad you did. As for the new insights, I hope so. Would be a shame to have the learning curve wasted.

  2. Amen, Bill! We should all have the attitude of “It’s now or never” especially when it comes to spending more time with God and those we love. Someday, somehow, just never gets here, does it?
    Blessings!

    Bill,
Thanks for always being on point with your message! I really needed to read that this morning!
    Thank you,

What a great reminder… about that “Someday”…… Guilty .. For saying it and thinking it… I loved this… saving this one… it is on the fridge now…
In some situations it is baby steps, but , someday does not have to be included 🙂

Oh I have lived in those “someday” and when it did I realized what I missed out on. I try not to put off till tomorrow what I can do today until this heart issue. I left our bed unmade, Ace finally made it. I stayed in my pj’s all day for many days. Finally I am getting some steam back and even though I jump up to get things done, I don’t jump as fast or as high. Looks like I will be having knee surgery this year. One thing I am enjoying more is time to myself. My friends don’t call as much to see if I want to go here and there because I haven’t had the strength to go. But that is returning and we make our first ministry trip this weekend. Made plans for one a month ago but it was too soon. I like what Bobbi said, in some situations it baby step. Glad your hindsight has given you more insight. Blessing brother.

Great truths, Bill! I also like Bobbi’s comment, “In some situations it is baby steps. . .”

I love that one. Motivation is great, but motivation for the things that our Father is motivated for has no equal.

Good for you for learning the lesson set before you. That’ll preach.

And I guess a thanks is in order for putting that Creedence Clearwater Revival song, “Someday Never Comes” into my head too.
