Generosity & Christmas in February

Written by cycleguy on February 24th, 2009

Generosity…you can’t really measure it…you sometimes can’t even expect it…but there are times it happens.  Someone might say, “Oh yes you can measure it.  Just look at how much money someone gives.”  But my question is this: is generosity only measured in coins and paper?  And then…if generosity is to come from the heart how can you see inside someone’s heart to see if they were motivated by generosity or not?  I reckon I am sort of funny that way.  I seen generosity exploding from a heart that is grateful for all God has given.   What is really true about generosity is that you cannot expect it.  One can hope for people to be generous toward a project but since people are so fickle how in the world can you count on it?  See my point?  No?  Well, let me explain.

A litte over a week and a half ago I wrote this post.  It was a tremendous opportunity for OVCF to show its generosity.  And WOW did they respond!  The local Community Outreach Project (COP) that was a dream of one our ladies who has gone through several floods brought in tons of toiletries and over $250 for the ministry.  The coats, hats and gloves project brought in over $110 and bags of clothes for the kids of Owen County.   The Living Water International (LWI) project was the real stunner.  We had previously collected $728.16 in four weeks.  My goal was to hit the $1000 mark.  Our giving for that one Sunday was…are you ready for this?…$682.01.  With a $100 donation from one of my fellow bloggers the total collected for LWI was a whopping $1510.17!!!   You can see that far exceeded the goal I had set.  Not bad for a church of 175-180 wouldn’t you agree?  The generosity of God’s people overwhelms me.   Some of you have asked in personal emails what the results were for our Christmas in February and I was waiting for what is probably the final tally.  What I can’t wait to do is to announce it this Sunday to OVCF.  We need to celebrate a win right now and this will be one of those things we can do that with.  I can’t wait!!  For those of you who prayed for us I want to thank you.
