This weekend the leadership (5 of us) and 7 other men are taking off for a local church camp for a Leadership Advance (I refuse to call it a Retreat). The theme is “Greater Things” and I believe it can help us refocus on our mission. We will be asking some probing questions that will cut to the heart of who we are as a church fellowship. Hard questions. Questions like “What are we doing that we should stop doing?” and “What are we not doing that we should start doing?” and “What are we doing that is getting stale?” and one that will really kick start some imagineering: “Besides a building, what would help us to accomplish “Greater Things?” Plenty more will be asked but you can get the drift of the Advance from those. It will be an intense Friday night/Saturday morning. (We could probably go longer but the Owen Valley Girls basketball team is in the State Finals and they play Saturday and many plan to attend. One of our elders is an assistant coach so he will miss the whole weekend. No one ever dreamed the girls would go this far so we scheduled the Advance this weekend. I reckon we can take a lesson from the girls don’t you think?) Anyway, for the time we will be there it will be an intense, probing time. Any prayers you can send up for me and the group would be appreciated. The song, though overused, is appropriate.
I plan to leave early Friday morning to spend the day by myself. I also plan to take my bike if it isn’t supposed to rain to do some “head clearing.” The rest will follow that evening. Thanks ahead of time for your prayers.
Definitely understand on not calling it a retreat. Oh, you know I’m praying! Dangerous.. risky.. and what some would call “out of the box so much so that Jack wouldn’t even recognize them.” That would be Jack in the box or Jack Bauer for those 24 peeps.
Take a lesson from girls? Yep!
Camey: so good to hear from you. You definitely know what kind of prayers I have been praying. The girls have surprised everyone for sure. Never lower expectations. Great lesson.
