PTHWSITI

Written by cycleguy on April 3rd, 2009

Before I write anything else let me put you at rest. No, I did not have dyslexia in my fingers when I typed.  No, I did not know how to spell (that was actually one of my better classes grade-wise).  No, I am not writing in “tongues.”  Please read on for a further explanation.

When I read this post, I had a flashback.  When I was a youth pastor, and then a pastor of a small church, I was quite involved in an organization called Christ In Youth (CIY for short).  Back then (and yes it was way…like in the ’70s) the moniker of CIY was Praise To Him Who Specializes In The Impossible (PTHWSITI).  See…told you I wasn’t totally whacked with my title!  CIY reached a lot of youth and adults but like many organizations has changed over time.  Having been out of youth work for so many years I am not even familiar with all that CIY is/does anymore.  However, I have never been able to forget that phrase: PTHWSITI.

Recently (within the past 3 years) I have had some very close friends experience a little of what Heidi talked about in her post.  Three years ago this past February, my best and longest male friend, lost his youngest son to an early morning auto accident.  I will not give you the details.  Then two years ago this Mother’s Day, some very dear friends from a church I pastored for 13 years, lost their son, and a wife & son lost their husband and father, in an early morning car accident.  Again, no details.  Now I read Heidi’s story again.  I am not going to pretend to know the answers to all of this or the “why” of it all.  Heck, I doubt anyone does and would seriously question anyone who thinks they do.  But I do know the ONE who not only knows the answers but is the answer.  We serve a God who does specialize in the impossible.  When Mary questioned the pregnancy with an “How can this be?” Gabriel told her, “With God all things are possible.” There are several other instances in the Scripture where our impossibility becomes God’s possibility.  Our darkness becomes God’s time to shine.  Our lack of trust and faith becomes God’s time to say, “Here, let me help your unbelief” and He bowls us over with an answer(s) so incredibly more than we could have imagined.  He is in the “Make It Happen” business.

So…heed Heidi’s candid thoughts today.  And along the way I hope you have gleaned something from mine.  Remember:  Praise to Him who specializes in the impossible.  Any thoughts you have?

Thanks for the link up, Bill. Good to see you again. I missed you and the “crew” a bunch while I was sort of gone.

God loves us. There is no getting around it. Even in our darkest hour, He reigns. Sometimes that’s all I could utter in praise “You reign”. Other times it was “You are God and I am not”. It was tough.

    Thanks again.

Missed you also Heidi. Funny how people get to you even when you haven’t met them on a face to face basis. Thanks for telling your story in honesty.
