I’m Only One

The power of one has been discussed before.  I read this quote:

“If you think you are too small to make a difference, try spending the night in a closed room with a mosquito.”

One of the most common mistakes we make is to think that we have nothing to offer…after all we are poor, or not talented,  or (you fill in the blank).  But God has other ideas.  The Bible is filled with people who did not seem to have much but were willing to be used by God.  Mary, the mother of Jesus, was one of them.  My message this Sunday is from Luke 1, the announcement to Mary and then her “Magnificat” (hymn of praise) later in the same chapter.

We will also be participating in Advent Conspiracy (AC) this year.  Last year I heard about AC one week before Christmas and so did a “rush” job on it.  Combined with the Christmas in February that we did, we collected over $1100 for Living Water International.  The lack of clean water causes millions of needless child deaths each year.  Yet the cost to bring clean water to one person costs only dollar per year.  The church I pastor is participating in AC full-bore this year. Videos, youth studies, sermons…all will be geared to this mission.  We may only be considered a small church in a small rural Indiana town but we can make a difference.   Worship Fully (Mary); Spend Less (John the Baptizer); Give More (Jesus); Love All (Us) will be my focus this month.  Those are the four main thoughts of AC. Thanks for praying…and consider Advent Conspiracy or Living Water International for your Christmas focus this year.

What is your church fellowship/family doing this year that shows the power of one?
