Mess of Me

Written by cycleguy on January 26th, 2010

For some reason I have never been a big fan of Switchfoot.  Not sure why to be honest.  Maybe because I never really sat down and listened to their music.  But after hearing this song that may change.  I feel like this could be my life story at times.

When I listen to this song I can’t help but go to Romans 7: 15-19: “I do not understand my own actions.  For I do not do what I want, but I do the very things I hate.  Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good.  So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.  For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing.”

So…can anyone else relate?  What are your thoughts on Paul’s passage of Scripture (what I don’t want to do I do and what I know I should do I don’t)?  Do you find yourself fighting this battle?  If so, are you winning and how?  I would like to hear your thoughts.

I fight that battle alot and some days I win and somedays I do not. With the recent immersing in Scripture I have notice that it has gotten better.

BTW – some of switchfoot I like and some not so much – my 14 year really likes them so I listen with her at times.

    Thanks for the thoughts Bill!

I have to agree with you Jim. Sometimes you win and sometimes you don’t. Your thought reminded me of Psalm 119:9,11.

My reaction is/has been the same to Switchfoot as yours. Thanks for stopping by.

  3. I think Jim is right…immerse/saturate our lives with Scripture…

My reaction with switchfoot…I really like them…I really enjoy their new song called “Always.”

    YOWCH! Another struggle for me!

Reminds me….There was this ministry who had a booth at The Soulfest last summer….they were giving out temp. tattoos that said “Starve the Flesh”…..I loved how this one girl explained it all to my then 6 year old daughter about how when she really wanted to tease her brothers or act selfishly because it felt good (her flesh)….but she needed to starve those desires and do the right thing.

Not saying that it sunk it all that well, LOL…but loved it regardless, and I constantly use that phrase in my home.

Michelle: I like that phrase! Think I will put it on a post-it and post it. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Hope your young lady does learn the lesson as she grows older.
