Random thoughts

Written by cycleguy on August 5th, 2008

Some bloggers have what they call a “Mind Dump.” It is where they just sort of talk about a whole bunch of stuff that may or may not be connected. I have some random thoughts that are running through my head (yeah I know there is lots of room for them to roam) and thought I would share some of them.

  • I cycled 23 miles today and sweat like a race horse. No sooner did I put on a headsweat than it was soaked. Unfortunately I have to wear glasses so you can imagine how they were in the way. They said it was only about 80 today. I think they lied. But if it was the humidity was like near 90%. They actually called for a Heat Advisory this morning from 2-4:00 this afternoon saying it would be like it was 105 degrees. I love it! Call me strange I know.
  • Was glad to at least get to cycle. It rained really hard here this morning and they called for T-storms (some severe off and on all day).
  • The Deadly Viper site had a blog about texting. I must be a dinosaur since I don’t do it. I don’t know how for one. But it is like email-too easy to be misunderstood. I commented on a post this morning and failed to correctly identify what I said was wrong and someone thought I was awful judgmental and would turn the person I was responding to off to Christianity. Not my intentions at all, of course. I was actually responding to her comment that she saw nothing wrong with porn. The one who challenged me thought I was saying she was wrong. My comment was why porn was wrong. Gotta be more careful you know?
  • I have a fantastic bride. What a woman!!
  • I also have two awesome daughters, a good son-in-law I am proud of and an almost perfect grandson. 🙂
  • I can’t wait until this weekend. Janna, our youngest, is coming to visit. With her will come that almost perfect grandson. Did I tell you that he loves riding bikes with his mom & dad? Right now he rides on the back of his dad’s bike. Soon I can see the youngest Tour de France participant. Must be in the blood. He also likes Chipotle. I think that is in his blood also. She ate there while pregnant. 🙂
  • I got an email from someone who wants to be involved in Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover. They have their $1000 Emergency Fund and are now doing a budget. Cool! Soon they will start tackling their debt-smallest to greatest with the Debt Snowball.
  • I am loving meeting new friends while blogging. Steve, Camey, Karma, Kevin, selahV, and a whole host of others. Welcome to my world and thanks for making it brighter!
  • You gotta check out Scot Longyear’s blog for today. The mirror deserves a response.
  • I am signed, sealed but not yet delivered to attend the Sticks Conference in Loudonville, OH. It is designed for churches in small to medium towns. I am already praying for my learning and have emailed several of the speakers and told them I was praying for them. If any of you plan to attend let’s hook up, i.e. let’s get together to chat and put a face to a name (thanks Camey-see comments). You will even get to meet my bride and (hopefully-if he is allowed to go with us) my grandson. She plans to “grandson sit” while I attend the conference. Wonder what Jason and Janna would take as a bribe for the honor of watching him for 2 days? Any ideas?
  • “My” associate/youth pastor sent me this and said he found my Christmas present for me and my Diet Dr. Pepper. I am not a big Letterman fan. In fact, I never have watched his show but on this, I howled. He (Brad) also secured his job for a while longer. 🙂

I have more stuff rattling around in my head but will save that for another time. (Aren’t you glad?) The best thing of all though is knowing I am loved by the Savior and that He gave His life for me. If I had nothing else to say…that would be enough.

  1. Sad…but I think I have more friends in the blogging world than in real life…

As I said, sad, sad, sad life…

  2. cycleguy says:

Does that mean you have more than me? But in reality I bet you have many more than you think.

  3. Camey says:

    Bill,

Enjoyed reading your “random” thoughts or mind dumping if you prefer.

One caution from me to you given your “gotta be careful you know?”

The phrase “hook up” means a variety of things depending upon the ears hearing or reading. Learned that one the hard way.

Thank you, Bill. You’ve been a sweet gift like the ones you mentioned as well. Totally cool unwrapping who you are.. and watching who you are becoming and not to mention how you’ve encouraged the heck out me. It is a sheer pleasure!

Now about that Steve… you and I both know if he were to venture either of our ways – we’d invite him to join us for supper/dinner at least.

And Bill, it’s the last two lines that makes us fast friends and more importantly – brother and sister!

Oh, I did comment on the mirror.

  4. Probably not Bill…in reality, I tend to be a person who sticks to himself. I’m like Ann over on her blog–extrovert on line and in the pulpit, and introvert in real life…

    I think I could really live on a deserted island…all alone…

As long as I have my computer and Internet!

Camey: change made in the blog about “hook up.” Thanks for the caution. I should have learned. I once used Is.40:31 as “my verse” and someone had a front license plate made for me that had an eagle on it with the words “mount up.” I was so grateful someone thought enough of me that I missed the connotation. Someone else didn’t.

Thanks for the encouragement and blog friendship. It is those last two lines that sets it apart.

  6. cycleguy says:

Steve: don’t be so hard on yourself. You can always have Robinson or Wilson with you. As long as there is blogland you are not alone! 🙂 I hope someday God allows us to meet. I reckon He will…if not here then in the air.

  7. I wonder which one of us will rise faster? I’ve got you beat on the weight thing…you’ve got me on the height…So, if you go faster the lighter you are, I’ll wait for you on the other side…if you get to reach faster because you can reach higher, then help me up!

  8. So…where’s your new post this morning…I get up and go to your site and Kevin’s site…to get caught up on the world…NOTHING from you! Nothing!

  9. cycleguy says:

Hey there funny guy (Steve) I posted the random thoughts late and had a men’s bible study this morning so thought I would post one around 10. There you have it! Sheesh such demanding people!

One way or the other we will be meet. You first or me makes no difference.

  10. quarterheeb says:

Hey Bill, if Brad buys the fridge, I will donate some Diet Dr. Pepper! How's MY job security?? 🙂

  11. cycleguy says:

Well Di. Bribery will get you everywhere.

For those who don't know (which is probably all of you) Di is "my" secretary and her grandfather was a fulfilled Jew. That makes her 1/4 heeb. 🙂
