A Gentle Whisper of Truth

Written by cycleguy on December 16th, 2010

Here it is…Thursday morning about 10:30 and I am usually working on my blog post for tomorrow.  But something else is sticking with me this morning: a Scripture I read.  My last couple of posts have been serious, sort of like a take-no-prisoner serious.  Not only do I plan to lighten up with this post but I also hope to leave you with something to grab on to.  During my morning Quiet Time, the OneYearBible reading took me to Micah.  Now, Micah is famous for its prophecy about the importance of Bethlehem (5:2) and its passage about doing justice, loving kindness, and walking humbly with God (6:8).  But buried in chapter 7 is a passage that vibrated within me this morning (some would use the word resonated within me).  😛  Here is the Scripture:

But as for me, I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me.  Rejoice not over me, O my enemy, when I fall, I shall rise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord will be a light to me.  I will bear the indignation of the Lord because I have sinned against him, until he pleads my cause and executes judgment for me.  He will bring me out to the light; I shall look upon his vindication. (7:7-9)

Then my reading took me to Psalm 135:13-14:

Your name, O Lord, endures forever, your renown, O Lord, throughout all ages.  For the Lord will vindicate his people and have compassion on his servants.

Sometimes, as you probably know from your own life, God will slap me up the side of the head with a 2 x 4.  But other times He comes gently, whispering truth in my ear.   Today was the latter.   I really needed this truth today. No great sin has taken hold but I am worn down and looking forward to my day off tomorrow.   Maybe you needed this truth whispered in your ear today also.  Read the verses again and again as I have done today and ask God to do the work in your life that you want He needs to do.

If this passage (okay I will use the word) resonated within you as you read it, would you mind sharing that with me and my readers?  I don’t believe for a minute that lessons I learn are to be kept to myself.  Instead they are to be shared. Oh yeah, one more thing: my reading also took me to Proverbs 30:5 (and if this does not beat all!)

Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.

I have no problem with the word ‘vibrate.’ 🙂 As I read the verses in Micah, I was thankful that He HAS pleaded my cause and executed judgment for me through the blood of Jesus. That same blood cries out on my behalf today. I understand the weariness, feeling it myself, but His word is true and He is my refuge. What a wonderful place to meditate today. Thanks Bill.

You are right Jason that His blood cries out for us today. I am reminded of that old song: the blood will never lose its power. Thanks for the comment.

The scripture in Micah hits hard today. I had spent the morning repenting of some pride issues that I’ve dealt with. So…thank you.

  3. Bill,

I would daresay that your blog article today was meant to be read by many, including myself.

    You nailed it.

I love, yes LOVE, Scriptures like this that serve to comfort, reaffirm, strengthen, and cause me to lay down inside and find my place in the Rest of The LORD.

The timing on this was brilliant.

Thanks for the kind words Donald but I would be remiss if I did not say, “It was Him.” I am still being hit with the simple reality of this passage for me.

  4. I needed this gentle whisper today more than you will ever possibly know.
    Thank you

    Hi Bill,
I see this chapter of Micah as possibly having an application even past our day to the time of the very end.
In the beginning of chapter 7 ‘the godly have been swept from the land’. By evil, I suppose. Everyone is like a brier and a thorn bush. Basically, good for nothing.

The Lord acting as our lawyer and our judge shows mercy to the remnant of his inheritance.

vs 13 it says ‘the earth will become desolate because of its’ inhabitants, as the result of their deeds.’
We are seeing evidence of this happening today in the earth.

vs. 7 is wonderful. ‘I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me’.
(Those who call upon the name of the Lord will be saved)

I think that chapter 7 of Micah shows us that there is a Sovereignness to God. He rules, He reigns. Man thinks he’s got it all in control. He doesn’t. He lives and dies because of the mercy and kindness of God.

The Lord will vindicate his people. Those who have believed and trusted in Him.

Am I off the interpretation of this chapter? Thoughts or corrections anyone? Thanks.
