“ShoutOuts”

Written by cycleguy on April 6th, 2011

Every once in a while I like to dig out the ol’ megaphone and give a ShoutOut to different posts/bloggers that have given me some food for thought.  The list is not exhaustive by any stretch but hopefully will give my readers some ideas of other bloggers out there.   Plus I added a thing or two… 😉

THING #1– Anyone going to this? I know it is early but thought I would get the word out to some.  I went to the very first Sticks conference in Loudonville, OH and was blown away!  So practical. So inspirational. So geared to pastors of churches in rural and small towns.  I would love to make plans to go and meet some of you and even consider sharing costs of a hotel room.  I plan to drive so if anyone is on the way, I would love to swing by and we could even share transportation costs.  If you are interested in knowing more, you can email me and I will give you my cell so we can talk things out.

Now…for some “blog love” (I know…the suspense is killing you)

I read several leadership blogs every day.  This one is pretty new to me but his short posts are often helpful.   I have counted on Scott for close to a year and these two posts here and here have given me much to think about.

None of us like bullying.  After reading this one by my friend, Toby, you will dislike it even more.  Then read his follow up the following day.

My Ukranian friend, Zee, (who calls me her big brother), posed an interesting question here.  It was actually prompted by author, Ted Dekker.  Check it out and see how you would answer.

There are several new blogs that I have put in my Google Reader to follow.  I encourage you to check them out.  You will find Jon here.  You will find Melissa here. As you will see, she and her family are getting ready to move.  Check out Sean’s blog here. Larry has been visiting my blog for a couple of weeks now.  I find his posts interesting (when he writes).  But do yourself a favor and check out this one.  This guy here is one funny dude.  Great sense of tongue-in-cheek humor. There are more but I will save them for another time.

I also have some “old” stand-byes that I go to with regularity.  I always read  but don’t always find time to comment.  I hope you will give them a shot (if you don’t already).  Adam, dude, you hit it out of the park with this one. I want to meet this guy some day on earth.  Powerful post here! My friend (and long-lost sibling), Jim, has written for the past two weeks on David.  You have to check them out here.  There are so many more I hope you will forgive me if I stop here.

You need to be praying for this guy and this guy.  They both lost their jobs recently.  While you are at it, read some of their other posts.

One of my newer “visits” is to a man in Australia who asked if it was okay to post me on one of those other blog lists (Stumbl upon, etc).  I told him yes.  He is from Australia and just this week wrote about this. I thought I would pass it on to you in case you might be interested.

THING #2– and this falls under the banner of “shameless promotion.”  😛  Back on October 28th, I wrote this post.  With the onset of cycling season, running season, baseball season, motorcycle season, and just about every other season where activity is at its prime, the issue of safety is heightened.  If you read the post, you will know I am big on Identity…on safety.  If you think it is a good thing, click on the RoadID badge on the right to find out more information.  I am so excited also that they are soon coming out with the ChildID.  I got a gift certificate for my daughter, son-in-law and grandson for this past Christmas.   In honesty, I do get a % for every order but I have no clue how much.

Well, that ought to do it for this post.  It is certainly long.  Sorry for that.  Check the posts out.  Feel free to comment on any of them.  If you want to add yours, feel free to do so.  Please don’t feel slighted if yours is not included.  It is impossible to include everyone.

    Hi Bill,
I read the posts on some of the blogging sites you have referenced to here. It is fantastic to be able to read someone’s work and thoughts from all over the world.

In the events that are happening in Northern Africa we are told that ‘facebook’ was a communication avenue for many of these people before and during the uprisings. The world has become a smaller place.

I read here that a couple of people are looking for work. In Canada we have the seasonal types of work. The numeration census is going on where part- time people are hired for the duration of this survey.
Tax time is here in Canada and I believe that HR Block and some others train and hire extra people for filling out personal tax forms at this time of the year. Just a couple of thoughts.
In my area there are opportunities for opening up my own home as a day home provider for other’s children. These are what I could think of for getting some work for myself. I am going out looking for part-time work tomorrow on advice of legal counsel. Wish me luck.

It is funny you should answer me in Russian? Whenever we visit a Chinese or Mexican restaurant and they start talking in their language, I tell the people I am with I know they are talking about me and it probably is one of those, “That silly American” type of things. I am trusting this is good. 😀

  14. Bill,

Thanks so much for the ‘shout out!’
