Call me on my cell phone and this will be your greeting. You will hear: “Please enjoy the music until your party answers the phone.” There is a story behind this song. The year was 1986 and we were living in Danville, OH where I pastored a small town church. We didn’t go to movies, mainly because our girls were so young and we just didn’t have the money so when this movie came out I barely blinked an eye. But then it came out in VCR (remember them?) and I rented it. I thought it was good but not something I would go hopping around about. I figured it would take me a time or two more to get more out of it but the tape had to be returned. Then it came on a free weekend of one of those pay channels and we watched it and taped it. That is when the fun part of this story begins. Our youngest daughter said, “Hey dad, let’s watch the movie.” So we did. The next day we watched it again. Then my best buddy and his son came to visit for a few days and it was probably watched at least 3 or 4 more times during that time. We would leave and if we came back in and it was on, we would finish watching it. We moved about a year later and Janna was still watching it only it was starting to show its age. The tape had blank spots. She knew the dialogue. So I bought a brand new tape. Then #3 was coming so I rented #2 and we watched it the night before Janna and I went to see it. It has become my favorite movie of all time. Unfortunately, the language is sort of rough but I love the plot and this song…what can I say? I can probably say this is my #4 favorite song of all time. (When will I give you #2?) Anyway, enjoy my blast from the past.
Thoughts anyone? No hate mail please.
Of course you would choose that one.
Hey Mike! Good to have you come by! And yes, I had to choose this one.
as if I don't hear that enough!!! And he's not lying about the watching it OVER AND OVER AND OVER!!!
Hey hey now Miss Grandi! Better watch your step or there will be no Christmas gift. 'course you may get the Back to the Future trilogy in DVD! That'll teach you.
Love you honey!
Bill,
Know this all too well. OH.. 1986? I was 18 and a senior in high school. Huey Lewis had lots of hair! (Wonder if he now has a combover?)
Tami,
I can think of worse things than that movie over and over. My dad had a thing for movies with horses and dogs that die. Try dancing to that type of music! Enjoy your comments…
Bill…no way around it…you are just weird!
Huey Lewis had a great sound. I miss just plain old rock groups like them. They didn’t have anything to say, just wanted to rock. What happened to groups like that?
Bill…for your information…I've never even heard of those singers/groups…
You have greatly distorted my age…either that or in your advanced years, you've lost the ability to use good perception!
Well…thank you Steve! I appreciate your kind words. And why, may I ask, am I weird? It’s not like I listen to your generation of Herman’s Hermits and Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs (Wooly Bully).
Now you I like Jim. A lot! See Steve. I ain’t all that weird! I am like you Jim. Where did the good music go to like Huey, Styx, Journey and some others?
Ahhh, you just took me back to memories of Junior High.
You haven't heard of Herman's Hermits (Mrs. Brown you've got a lovely daughter and "I'm Henery the 8th I am") and Wooly Bully? That was the 60s. You mean you aren't that old?
Thanks Camey. You and Karma are reminding how old you aren’t.
I saw HL recently in a picture and he still has a full head of hair.
And thanks for helping out with my incorrigible daughter.
She tends to like chick flicks.
karma: Jr. High? UGH!!! I reckon that’s right since we figured once i was about 15 or so years older than you and B.
Well, the video and all those bands take ME back to high school days! I think you need a pair of silver "shades" like the professor has on at the end of the clip! Rock on dude!
1885? You aren't that young are you? About them shades: you buy I wear them.
How about "FREEBIRD!"
I'm checking ebay right now!
I believe I may have been cheated of some good music memories… growing up in the era of New Kids on the Block, Milli Vanilli, and various 1 hit wonders… Perhaps why I don't listen to alot of music.
signed – forever tainted!
Bill…I’ve heard of those guys…I remember reading about them in history of music books…
Steve:
Ancient history. For the record: I never liked either one.
That is my all time favorite set of movies so no making fun of them. I can still say all the dialogue even before it is said. My sister would get so mad, but I had fun with it. Love you dad.
Kevin: Is that a southern song? Sorry that doesn't even come close to anywhere on my TOP 20 list.
hey there 1/4heeb: Check away!!
Dear forever tainted: I feel so sorry for your limited musical exposure. NKOTB. MV? They didn’t even sing. YOu have to branch out! Enjoy life away from the computer (but not my blog or wordpress)!
Hey gang: this is the one who keeps my blog going. So be nice to him when you comment on his 1 hit wonders.
And here my blog friends is the true connosieur (sp) of Back to the Future. My partner in crime. My partner in time travel. The one who got this whole train rolling. And she is the expert! And she will beat you up if you say anything bad about me.
Love you too Janna.
Surely you gest!
That is blasphemy in the south. Freebird is a classic and yelled by southern rockers everywhere.
Kevin: Gotcha! Believe the group was Lynard Skynard. But sorry still doesn't make my top 20 list.
