Freebies

“FREEBIE!  COME AND GET YOUR FREEBIE!”

Several things are true.  First, anything free is music to some peoples’ ears.  Second, it is even better if there is more than one freebie.  People will flock to any remnant of freebie.  For example, in less than a month our community will have what is called the Apple Butter Festival.  And yes, it’s claim to fame is Apple Butter.  Reckon you gotta like it to appreciate it, and no one will ever accuse me of that.  But I digress.  🙂  The church community I pastor will be having a booth at the Festival for the first time, and guess what?  WE. WILL. HAVE. FREEBIES. TO. GIVE. AWAY!    What else did you expect?  In an effort to get “our name” out there, we will be giving away balloons, pens, calendars, water, information, and our smiles.  (Hopefully, people will be attracted and not turned off).  😀   Third, it is a fact that much of the freebie stuff will either not make it home, i.e. find the garbage can or fly off, or will soon be forgotten. But, in the case of the Festival, you do it hoping that you might have one person show an interest.  Fourth, even freebies sometimes have strings attached.  I used to go to Home Improvement extravaganzas where they would have table after table offering a chance to win free windows, or free this, or free that.  Of course, you had to sign your name to a piece of paper to register and then came the incessant phone calls about their product.  Honestly, that is to be expected.  After all, you signed up for it when you thought you were getting something free.  🙂

WELL. I. HAVE. A. FREEBIE. OFFER. FOR. YOU!!

Honest.  No strings attached (okay maybe one but it is minor).  No, you don’t have to sign your life away.  No, you don’t have to contribute to the “Bill Grandi Trip to Alaska or Australia Fund.”  (Mainly, because there is none, although….)  😛  Over the years I have collected many now unused helpful books, some very current.   First, I need some shelf space.  Second, I am of the older generation that actually used paper books (not Nook or Kindle), and want to pass on some of those books to others.  My girls certainly have no use for them.   So, I hit on an idea.  Here’s the deal.  I have made a list of books I want to GIVE AWAY to anyone who wants them. That’s right.  FREEBIES!!  The only catch (and you knew there would be one) is that you have to email me and ask for the list.  I will send it to you as an attachment.  It will be first come first served.  All I ask (and here is the real catch) is that you pay shipping and handling.  If you plan to be at theSticks in October or Catalyst OneDay in Chicago in November, I can bring them with me.   Email me at pastor@ovcf.org and I will send you a list.

One last thing: this is a perfect set up for a Jesus Juke.  Yeah, I know salvation is free and has no strings attached.  🙂   Any questions, email me or comment and I will get back to you.  Have a great day!

    So many things here.
Apple Butter festival. Awesome. First, apple butter rocks on a warm biscuit. That festival is what small town life is all about.

Second, giving away free books instead of turning them in for cash…very cool indeed.

Third, I hope no one Jesus jukes you on this one. Yes His grace is free…but come on now.

Fourth, I feel like I’m only one of a very small group still reading actual books. I like the satisfaction of actually bending down the page of a book (seen that kindle commercial? funny stuff)Glad to know you are out there Bill. I haven’t made the leap to the world of Kindle either my friend.

I guess I’m old because I prefer good old fashioned big paper books to Kindle.

Then I am old as well 😀 There’s nothing better than the smell of the paper and ink, and the feel of paper, and seeing a full bookshelf….

Very true sis. My book shelves though are way too full and so I want to share. 🙂

So are mine… I’ve got books all over my apartment. I need to give some away, but mostly I collect books – so I buy them in series, like World’s Greatest Science Fiction series or all Koontz or Dekker… 🙂

I also like traditional books more then digital ones, its not just the dinosaurs who like the old way:)

I have about 15 books on my bookshelves and another 20-25 on my book list, so even thought I would want some free books (And I know they would be good) I need to focus on reading the ones I have now.

This is such a great way to add value to your readers and friends .

    2. Bill Grandi Trip to Alaska or Australia Fund – you should start something like Bill & Jo Grandi Trip to Ukraine Fund. 🙂 I’d love to have you guys over.

      1. I can send you the list Zee and we can work on getting them there (or you here) lol

      2. That sounds like fun…for me! I don’t know if I could get Jo out of the country. 🙂

      • Zee says:

        1. Hmm… okay.
        2. I can give contact info of a few people who have been here and who can share with Jo how awesome it’s to experience other cultures 😀 (And Ukraine’s the place to be – not to live, but it’s amazing to visit)
