Reprieve

Written by cycleguy on September 27th, 2012

I am taking a reprieve.   Maybe that is not the correct word since the dictionary says a reprieve is “the delay of punishment.”  The secondary definition is “to give relief or deliverance for a time.”

Maybe mini-sabbath is a better word.

Or

Maybe mini-sabbatical.

In any case, I am taking the weekend away from the computer.  After Jo is off work Friday, we are taking off for Ohio to spend the night and then Saturday morning taking off for Pittsburgh with our grandson and his mother.  :)    I turn 60 on October 9th (money is welcome… :) ) and Braden turns 6 in October as well.  Jo thought it would be a cool birthday present to take Braden to a Pirates vs. Reds baseball game at PNC Park.  I thought it was a terrific idea that he and I go by ourselves but lo, and behold, Jo would hear nothing of the sort!  I simply can’t figure out why for the life of me!  Then she invited Janna to go.  ‘Course what was I going to say?

Sad part of the whole thing is when we bought the tickets and made the hotel reservations the Pirates were tied with the Reds for first place.  Since then the bottom fell out and they lost something like 13 of 19 games, fell out of contention for even a Wild Card spot, and Wednesday night were eliminated for sure from Postseason play.  The really really sad part is Braden is a Reds fan (thanks to his father), but did tell me he would root for the Pirates whenever they were playing someone other than the Reds.   Oh well, we are going to have fun anyway.  There can’t be much better than going to a major league ball park with your grandson to watch a game, even though I will have to put up with his incessant talk about the crazy Reds.   :)   An added bonus is a concert by Lifehouse (whom I know hardly anything about) and some super fireworks.

All that to say that once 4:00 Friday hits, I will be incognito until probably Monday morning.  I know, I know, that makes you extremely sad, but please try to get along for a couple of days without me.  Of course that also means if you write a blog I will not be posting any comments.  Sorry.  :(

The young man we hope to hire as our Youth Pastor, Ryan East, will be preaching for me.  When you say a prayer for my safe travels, how about shooting one in for him also- as he preaches and for our desire to hire him.  Thanks.  Have a blessed weekend.

Sounds like a great weekend plan ahead. Did I tell you that I lived in SW Ohio for about 8 years in addition to my stints in Bloomington and Pittsburgh? Sounds like we have traveled many of the same roads. Blessings to you.

I can’t speak for the baseball game, but I think you’ll like Lifehouse – if you make it through the game. My son has not had the endurance to make it through a baseball game.

Prayed for your church and potential youth pastor.

    Hi Bill,
Enjoy your weekend and time with your family!
All is going well here with my boarders. I will start work again on October 3, but it was good that I had September to help Mazina get settled with her 2 children.

She is attending college in my area for a 2 year education degree. The kids are attending a school close to the campus. They are a Christian family.

I will pray for you and your family’s safety while away and for Ryan East.

Please pray for me in starting this new job. I’m looking for good success in the job and being able to physically and mentally handle the long hours and stresses. Thanks.

It’s been many years since I’ve been to a game. I used to live real close to Wrigley Field in Chicago. I think I had more fun watching the people than watching the games. Have a great and mentally relaxing trip.

  10. Well, I hope you’re having a great time right about now!
