HodgePodge

Written by cycleguy on February 6th, 2013

I have seemingly a zillion things running through my mind (clogging up the works) and I’m not sure any of them can fill a whole post unless I wanted to really get wordy.  But we know that is not possible….  😛

SOMETHING GREAT!

I am truly excited about having Ryan on board.  That may change tomorrow, 😉  but these first three days have been really cool.  ‘Course he was gone Tuesday for his day off.   Diana (the secretary office manager) texted him on Monday and called him Jr. Boss.  That may stick!  She calls me Boss, but not sure why since she’s really the boss.  You know…if Diana ain’t happy ain’t nobody happy.

SOMETHING HUMOROUS BUT TRUE

The world may have high praise for the so-called open minded person, but godly wisdom controls access to the mind.  I like the quote I read recently from G.K. Chesterton: “The problem with a lot of open minds is that they need to be closed down for repairs!”

SOMETHING STRIKING BUT SAD

In a biography of John Lennon, his son Julian, said, “My dad was a hypocrite. Dad could talk about peace and love out loud to the world.  He could sing about it, but he could never show it to the people who supposedly meant the most to him, his wife and his son.  How can you talk about peace and love and have a family in bits and pieces, no communication, adultery, divorce?  You can’t do it; not if you’re being true and honest with yourself.”   I found this. (Reckon we can all learn from this about ourselves?)  Seems hypocrisy know no bounds (for all of us).

SOMETHING NEW AND REFRESHING

I was able to get out on my bike on Wednesday for the first time since  before Christmas.  It was real.  It was fun. But I can’t say it was real fun.  Wind chill in the 20s (since when can the weatherman predict the weather?).  5-10 mph wind.  Wobbly legs as I write this.  Only did 13 miles but that’s not bad for the first time in over a month.  Too much too fast= tendinitis.  Don’t want to go there.

SOMETHING I CAN’T WAIT TO BLOG ABOUT

I’ve been reading Artie Davis’ new book Craveable.  (Check the right column)  Artie is the pastor of Cornerstone Community Church in Orangeburg, SC and the director of theSticks Network.  I hope to post a review of it next week.  So far….bulls-eye!

SOME THINGS TO THINK ABOUT

You will never turn out wrong doing right.  And you’ll never turn out right doing wrong.  Just do the right thing!  (p.29)

Failure of integrity at the leadership level leads to a casual and even arrogant attitude toward integrity at other levels.   (p.19)

These last two thoughts came from Authentic, the new book by James MacDonald.  BUY IT!

Well…that’s enough for now.  Anything turn your crank?  How’s things with you these days? Anything you would like to comment on?

  1. Being a Beatles fan, I find it sad, but not surprising, that Lennon’s kid would say this. I mean how peaceful and loving was the Fab Four’s breakup?

    We are what we are.

Often, much less than what we ought be.

I thought I was the only one still struggling with ADD? Just kidding, brother.

Doing the right thing based on Biblical principles has been a hot button in my life for some time. I think I shared with you the first manuscript I wrote was about that very thing. We are now in epidemic squander. I pray the nation that was formed by and for God returns…

I don’t have ADD. Least never been told I have. 🙂 Gonna have to email you Floyd because I never have known what your first manuscript was about.

Kind of a potpourri of favors today. Good stuff. One thing that has been on my mind today is that it is Feb. 7 and so far, I have not had to pull my winter jacket of the closet. I have never gone this late into winter without pulling it out.

Wait – you can’t let anyone call the youth leader “Boss”! He’ll soon be plotting his takeover of operations. You are the Man and the Man’s job is to hold everyone else down!

Sorry, with all that talk about the Beatles, I got caught up in a hippie moment.

Glad you got to get back on the bike

I would say I am bigger than him (I am) but he also holds a black belt so I have to be nice to him. 🙂 I told him to read your comment. Hippie moment allowed.

  6. It’s disappointing to hear about someone else’s hypocrisy – but it’s not really surprising. We’re all hypocrites in some way. It makes me think long and hard about my kids and what message I’m sending them.

  7. Zee says:

LOL, you ARE all over the place 🙂 I’ve had those days and I can certainly agree with the idea about having to shut down the mind for repairs.

Things over here are… hm, guess they are good. Seriously… I might not be in the best upbeat mood, but things are good. We’re on the final stage of launching a CIS Nazarene website (one of my tasks as a new CIS Field Communications Coordinator), our new Church building is getting ready, life goes on.

*HUG* Thankful for you, big brother 🙂

    • cycleguy says:

All over the place! Sounds like the new church building is getting done. Is your CIS thing for the church you are a part of or for the larger Naz in Ukraine? Thankful for you to little sis. 😛

Now this was an interesting post! Pssst, the reason Diana calls you “Boss” and Ryan “Boss Jr” is because she knows she’s the boss, but we women let you men think you’re the bosses. hahahehe. Just kidding. That piece from Julian Lennon is just sad. Not surprising, but sad. I hope you were able to get out on this decent sunny Thursday for another bike ride. And I love G. K. Chesteron quotes….I have one taped right here on the printer beside me. 🙂 There are a lot of things that are turning my crank lately, mostly the way a lot of my 3rd graders are treated in their “homes”, witnessing the disrespect & downright cruelty of a parent speaking to his 3rd grader in public and in general, the lack of understanding from the top brass who have no clue what these kids are living through, therefore they cannot concentrate on learning, yet demanding that teachers are responsible for the lack of learning, etc, etc. Sorry, got on my soapbox, but in all fairness….you started it with your random topics. 🙂 haha. Love ya!

I try to let Diana feel like she is the boss. I just say, “Yes m’am” and do whatever she says. 😛 I have a daughter who is experiencing the same thing as you. Thanks for commenting. It is so good to hear from you.

  9. I feel like I’ve been to the smörgåsbord! I happen to love me a good smörgåsbord. 🙂 Thanks Bill.

I thought this was great, and like it when you share about things that are touching you! The quote about you’ll never turn out wrong doing right, blessed me.
    God bless you!
