Towel

Pride vs. Humility

Several thoughts come to mind.

Constant struggle.

A question: how do you know if you are humble or not?

I posed a statement followed by a question on my other blog awhile back: You cannot love without humility; you cannot have humility without love. True or False? The comments I received were interesting to say the least. If interested you can check them out.

My sermon Sunday focuses on humility vs. pride. The humility of Jesus vs. the pride of the disciples. The story is from John 13:1-17 and most will recognize it as the story of Jesus washing His disciples’ feet. Other than the submission on the cross, there is no greater example of humility than this act. I’m calling it The Way of the Towel (in keeping with my theme from John for the month: “The Way”).

So…how do you know if you are humble or not? Thanks for your prayers this weekend.

  1. Ben Nelson says:

I love the title – the way of the towel. This sounds great, and I am in full agreement. Without humility there can be no love.

Humility, in my mind, is best demonstrated by our connection to the Father. We abide in Him only when we realize that without Him we can do nothing. When we detach from the vine, we are proving that we think we can do it on our own.

As you bring this Sunday, I pray your connection is strong, and you hear His words and He anoints yours.

I like your connection to the vine/branches Ben. Thanks for your prayers for me.

  2. floyd says:

I’d say our thoughts and actions reveal the truth about our pride and humility. I’ve never heard the most humble of people claim to be… Just sayin’.

    1. cycleguy says:

Our actions follow our beliefs is a correct way to put that put that Floyd. A person who is proud cannot be humble.
