Ten- Respect God’s Name

ten

You have been there and so have I.  You are in a public place talking with someone and some loud mouth decides he wants to show his/her ignorance by spouting off some not so nice things using God’s Name as reinforcement.   I cringe when I hear the “F” word used in public.  I shudder when I hear God’s Name being used in such a vile way.  I truly wonder what we would think if God did indeed “damn” everything we told Him to.  Psalm 74:18 says, “Remember this, that the enemy has reproached, O Lord, and that a foolish people have blasphemed Your name.” (NKJV)   I reckon I could spend the whole morning talking about how people blaspheme and misuse God’s Name but they already know that.  So my greater focus will be on how we can respect God’s Name.  Here are my thoughts:

  1. We respect God’s Name by not using it in profanity. We drag God’s Name through the mud when we do this.
  2. We respect God’s Name by not using it in a frivolous manner. Does anyone else get bothered by the increasing use of “O God!” or “OMG!” or am I alone?
  3. We respect God’s Name by not cheating God of His honor. The whole point of worship is to honor Him.
  4. We respect God’s Name by not being hypocritical in our lives.  Jesus looked at the Pharisees and said, “People look at you and think you’re saints, but beneath the skin you are total frauds.” Mt.23:28 (MSG)

I would appreciate your prayers for me and those who listen.  A big shout out once again to Dan Drewes for the banner.
