Demons

Written by cycleguy on March 2nd, 2014

Last week while I was preaching on Luke 5 (demoniac), I mentioned that I believed in demons. They are real. But I also cautioned the folks about seeing a demon behind every rock.

This past Wednesday my college and best male friend called cancelling our planned Friday Pizza Hut lunch due to a death in the family. We compared “war stories” about the havoc weather has played on our church gatherings. He drives an hour to preach for a little country church and has had to cancel twice. We have had to cancel once, and that was when snow started falling about 7:00 am and was dropping over an inch an hour with some of the biggest snowflakes I have ever seen. Then I told him this observation:

I believe I saw a demon behind every snowflake falling…laughing at me.Β  πŸ™‚

Well, it is Sunday morning, 7:00, and the demons are laughing at me again…even though I can’t see them just yet. Our county is under an Orange, which means only essential driving (work) and emergency vehicles on the road. They have had us under a Watch, then Warning, for several days, but have not been able to track its certainty or potential. Well, it hit us sometime in the middle of the night with freezing mist. I made it to the office at 4:00 and the main roads were fine. The sidewalks of the church building were also fine since we spread salt last night. Within two hours my truck had iced over again and the lot and walks were a solid sheet of ice. So we made the decision to cancel services today. I, personally, don’t want the responsibility of someone having an accident or falling and breaking something.

BUT I KNOW I SAW OR HEARD SOME DEMONS LAUGHING.

Every ice particle. Every icy glaze. Soon every snowflake (expecting 3-8″) starting about noon.

Frustration is an enemy who would be easy to have right about now. It has been the winter from you-know-where. Funny. Winter and hell don’t seem to mix. πŸ™‚ I’m not sure I have ever experienced one quite like this before. But such is life. And honestly, I am not complaining. I have learned it does no good to complain about the weather since I can’t change it or stop it anyway. Go with the flow. Encourage people to stay inside and be safe.

Nope, I am not and will not complain. But bike riding season can’t come quick enough. Then those stupid demons will probably laugh at the 100+ degree temps. “Get behind me!”

Have a great week my friends. How was your weekend weather? And yes, I give you permission to rub it in. πŸ™‚

here in TN it was 60’s- and very nice- but did I get to enjoy it? Nope- I was stuck inside sick πŸ™

We had 70 deg weather today (Sunday) and my daughter and I sat outside on our porch. Tomorrow is forecast for up to 8 in of snow. Really? This is so not necessary.

Well California got the long awaited needed rain this last four day. They came just as we moved…so I was seeing a demon behind every rain drop…hehe. Actually we kicked him in a mud puddle and went right on moving. Our daughter called from northern Mn with temperatures of -39 below worrying that we would be swept away in a mud slide. One does have to wonder what is God up to with the seemingly “strange” weather all over. I do think there was even stranger weather before the weather reporters, we just did not know about. I knew it was going to turn to a cold rain though for my fibermyaligia was up to a 10. Thanks God for a heating pad and meds. Pray everyone was safe through the snow storm.

    Sore throat, today
    Tell winter, Say
    β€œRelease your icy grip!”

    β€œOh Hell no – we won’t go
put in your time as an Eskimo
    We love this power trip!”

    Bad poetry – a freebie. πŸ™‚

I will not be joining in the cries come mid-summer for a return to winter – you don’t risk your back (or your heart) shoveling sunshine – but I *will* echo your cries of “Get thee behind me, Satan!”

  5. Bill, it was about 70 yesterday. Dipping into the low 30’s for highs today.

  6. Desert Jim says:

    Hi Bill,

It was 80 on Saturday in Dallas and in the teens this morning. Not much snow but enough ice and sleet that stuck to the roads for the schools to close today. I was very surprised that it froze over with the ground being so warm.

Also wanted to send a note to Zee to let her know that I am praying for her and her country!

    • cycleguy says:

That’s a pretty big drop there Jim. WOW! We had 50 on Saturday with the mess on Sunday and temps this morning at 11. I’m hoping Zee will have a chance to read your note.

    • Zee says:

Thanks, Jim! We (I think I can speak from all Ukrainians) really appreciate all the prayers. Considering what I’ve seen in the last few months, prayers are doing miracles here. Thank you!

The Arizona desert got some much needed rain on Saturday and it was back to sunshine yesterday. When it snows up north I know it’s our Father’s way of providing water in the lakes and reservoirs that is essential to life. Not always pleasant, but needed.

I appreciate your attitude about things that we can’t change… I’m taking notes!

    • cycleguy says:

I had a friend who lived in Apache Junction and he talked about the lack of rain and the necessity for it for just such reasons. Thanks Floyd. Not sure I’m a good role model to take notes of.

I was an interim pastor at a small church in Wyoming for about six months. I remember driving the 90 miles once through a raging snowstorm only to find out they had cancelled services — and forgotten to let me know. Now THAT was frustrating!

  9. Jeff says:

I have never seen a demon. I have an ex wife that might qualify. If you ever see one call me. I would like to see a real one.

  10. Zee says:

We actually had one of the mildest winters this year. Thank God for that, otherwise it would be hard on the people at Maidan. In fact, we had above-freezing temperatures almost all February. It’s quite odd, considering that even the very name of the month in Ukrainian (Lyutiy) means “Enraged” in the sense that it’s usually the coldest month.

These days the demons look more like people at the government…

The weather here is keeping us inside. I’m with you, I’m ready for the summer, than I can complain about the heat πŸ™‚

  12. Jan says:

My poor snow is getting all sorts of grief! πŸ™‚ Now Bill you have obviously not read the post on my blog about S.N.O.W. πŸ˜‰ I know, I know everybody is ready for the snow to be finished & winter to be over….I can tell you that I’ve enjoyed every single snowfall with glee and will be one of the people who cannot be outside when it’s 100* this summer. But I know you enjoy your biking, so I hope we get warm weather soon for that. It is discouraging when churches have to cancel, but just keep the joy in your heart so satan can’t use my beautiful snow as an attack. I love ya even if you are a snow hater. πŸ™‚

    • cycleguy says:

Now now Jan. Don’t get all defensive! πŸ™‚ I don’t remember much about your blog about SNOW except to remember you love it. I honestly don’t mind snow. I just wish it wouldn’t come on the weekend. πŸ™ I will be thinking of you this summer as I ride. Glad you still love me.
