Work

Written by cycleguy on August 31st, 2014

My wife is retired. This past May she worked her (what she hopes) last full-time job. After our girls went to school, Jo has worked almost solidly until May. Most of her work was as a secretary at a Christian school and in a Day Care. But these past 8 have been the most stressful. She worked for the Indiana BMV. I often said they were the people you loved to hate. I know she didn’t love her job. The jury is still out on whether she liked it! 🙂

She is enjoying retirement. No…make that she l-o-o-o-o-o-o-ves retirment! Just this past weekend she went to Ohio to help out with Braden (our grandson).

I have to admit: I love working. I love my job. I jokingly say I only work one day a week. What is there to not love about it? While I do get tired sometimes-of getting up early (4:00); of the constant grind of new sermons each week; of people (did I say that?)-I absolutely love my job! I love the people I work with (Ryan and Diana). I love the people I work alongside (the leaders). I love the people I serve.

It’s supposed to be that way, but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that isn’t going to happen for all. But God gave us work. He gave each of us talents and abilities to use and in turn benefit the lives of others.

In other words, we have been blessed to bless others.

Take some time this Labor Day to be thankful for your job. Be thankful you have a way to provide for your family. Ask God how you can use it to be a blessing to others. Work to the best of your ability. Don’t slough off.

Enjoy your day!!

    You too, Bill!

Even though we sinners have a tendency to slough off now and then…He didn’t slough off for us. He willingly went to His work on the Cross…for us…the slackers and slough off artists who could never do for Him…what He has done for us.

  3. Isn’t it the most delicious grace to love how you spend your days?

    What a gift.

My heart is happy when I can help others. I am praying that whatever job is going to be coming (soon please) will be one where my passion and my career can be combined.

I really appreciated Albert Mohler’s words about work the other day on his “The Briefing” podcast. It seems many a Americans don’t have a good theology of work. I’m glad you enjoy your job Bill, keep up the good work!
