I think any pastor worth his salt will wonder about church growth. Any fellowship will wonder about church growth. I know the argument that is used: we don’t want to get too big. We may lose contact with others and not know everyone. In actuality, that is absolutely, unqualifyingly (my word check says that is not a word but it is to me!) true. As a church grows, there are certain non-negotiables that go along with it. One glaring one is that you cannot know everyone. To be honest, that has been a tough one for me to overcome in the past. I still struggle with that because I do want to be able to know peoples’ names when I see them. But I have had to resign myself to the fact that I cannot and will not know everyone who walks through the doors into OVCF. A church of 100 is different from a church of 200 and a church of 200 is different from a church of 500. It is inevitable. It is not my intention in this post though to give my ideas on obstacles. Maybe another time. I want to encourage you to go here to hear it from a man who is much wiser and much more experienced that me. He says a ton in a short span.
