Jesus

Solid

“All the armies that ever marched, all the navies that ever sailed, all the parliaments that ever sat, all the kings that ever reigned, put together, have not affected the life of man on earth as much as that One Solitary Life.”

My guess is that you have heard that before, maybe even the whole poem. Deny as much as they like, men must admit no one has influenced this world like Jesus and those who have taken their call to follow Him seriously. Hospitals, schools, colleges, humanitarian agencies, social justice organizations have all been started by followers of Christ.

So…who is Jesus? Without a doubt the jury would have a mixed ruling. Fashion, film, music, sports, even religion have all pictured Jesus. Some in radical ways; some in confusing ways (can anyone say award shows?); some in mixed up ways; some in solid ways.

In my current series, SOLID!, I will be landing squarely at this juncture-the statement of faith we make on our church’s website: “We believe that Jesus Christ is the one and only, virgin born Son of God and is co-equal with God. He is God in human flesh, died on a cross as a substitute for our sins and rose bodily from the dead, and is the only way to God.”

I leave Thursday morning for Ohio to pick up a certain grandson and bring him back on Friday to spend the week with grandpa, mamaw and Aunt Tami. I’d appreciate your prayers for safe travel and also for Sunday’s sermon. Thanks ahead of time. You also might want to pray for stamina for us. It has been awhile since a certain 9 year old has spent significant time with us. 🙂

  2. Praying for you, Bill! And I can attest to how those young ones will wear you out in a heartbeat, but oh, it’s so worth it. Have fun!

  3. Have a great time, Bill.

Since we now share a house with our son and family that contains two grandchildren, one five year old boy and a 7 year old girl I am starting to praise the Lord for my hearing aids. I can take them out for some peace and quiet. They are pretty shape though for if I don’t answer their countless questions they will ask, Grandma, you got your hearing aids in? Sounds like a great message.I am in the last pages of Jim Cymbala book, Storm where he makes it so clear who Jesus us. Funny thing is, people who live in the jungle rarely arguer about who Jesus is. IN fact ,like little kids they fall in love with Him, He becomes their hero. But then they world would call them dumb…easily led but when you see a tribal person stop killing, stop beating their wives and children, stop being afraid of the spirits that live in trees, the ground, the water. It is a super natural change that comes into a person life when they believe who Jesus Christ really is and cast aside all other gods, (with a little god). Praying brother for your message to touch lives.

Betty – I laughed out loud 😀 I guess with that attitude, one might not worry about hearing aids but enjoy them (sometimes I’d like that… Loud noise gives me a headache.)

I don’t have hearing aids. Turning him off is not an option except when he reads or sleeps.

One 9 year old can be a bunch.
I am used to a 12,9,8,and 7 when they all show up. Go hiking. It wears them out and it’s good exercise. McCormick’s Creek is a good place for that.

Wow, a whole week with the little man! I’ll talk to God to give you the strength)

I’m looking forward to reading the posts’ series.
